Book One: The Trees of Life and Death – Chapter Twenty-Eight: A Den of Blights

General Summary

With Lilith rejoining them and the blights routed, our heroes were free to investigate the nearby rooms. After breaching through their vine-bound doors, they found many people near death with bloodsucking roots dug into their flesh. Askra managed to resuscitate some of them with divine magic, including the broken-chain half-ogre Tug. In the final room they found the source of the tainted water: a wastrilith named Suz’gaxith fused with the trunk of a tree. The demon begged for a new vessel to house his spirit. Seeing a way to cure the water and contain Suz'gaxith, Askra allowed the demon to possess her staff of the golden wyrm.

It wasn't long after that Markus Grasswind stumbled upon the core of the blight's hive. Heading the operation was a man carrying a staff made from a sickly black branch and bedecked in weathered red robes and a tree bark mask. Flanking him was Big Lou and Little Lou, both recently blightchanged and thirsting for blood. Separated from the rest of the Redwings by a living wall and set on by a horde of violent blights, the dragon knight retaliated. His allies quickly tore through the wall and reunited with him, and together they slowly trudged through the living, murderous bramble. The blights were cunning—the two frontliners falling victim to their devastating ambushes and the backline scrambling to deal with hard-hitting flanks. As our heroes slowly overtook them, the masked man ordered the corrupted farmhands to flood the room. Despite this the Redwings managed to force the druid to retreat. Lilith killed the farmhands and with Markus they sealed the floodgates.

Rewards Granted

Having made a deal with Suz’gaxith, Aska's staff of the golden wyrm now had additional demonic properties.

Missions/Quests Completed

The Redwings successfully found the cause of the poised well water and eliminate it. They also managed to save several abducted civilians.

However, they killed Big and Little Lou instead of rescuing them and they failed to find Enma.

Character(s) interacted with

While cooperating with Denda, her goblins, and Svlebe, the party rescued some abducted civilians and Tug. They then negotiated with the demon Suz’gaxith.

It wasn't long until they encountered and defeated a masked druid, Big Lou and Little Lou, and a hive of blights.
