Neverwinter Stories: Book One – Chapter Three

General Summary

What was once a simple rescue mission turned into a desperate struggle to recover the fallen party. Many were hurt, but the threat was dashed and the fallen recovered. An unusual tabaxi wanderer happened upon the clash, after which he volunteered his aid to Alessandra Corlinnar. Having been brought back to relative safety, our heroes spend time recovering — time Markus especially needed. During this time the wanderer identified himself as a travelling bard named Miguel, and asked if he could accompany the four adventurers deeper into the citadel. With their spirits restored and a new ally in tow, the party set back out once more into the goblin's territory.   Back where they started, the party searched a few of the remaining rooms. Most notable of these rooms was a prison block containing three kobolds and a gnome cleric in a cage. After some questioning, they learned that the gnome's name was Erky Timbers. He was down in the Sunless Citadel with a friend a week prior in search the goblin's treasure horde, before he was caught. This friends, it just so happens, was none other than the tabaxi bard. After being reunited, Erky and Miguel accompanied the party on their delve deeper into Durbuluk territory.   After overcoming a few traps, the party came across an old trophy room with many new additions. One such addition was the white dragon wyrmling Calcryx — still alive and well. When Meepo entered the room Calcryx was enraged and attacked him. It took the combined efforts of Alesandra, Markus, and Zalak to subdue her, while Miguel mended Meepo's wounds. After being restrained, Calcryx begrudgingly submitted to the party and followed them deeper. While travelling, the party tried to appeal to Calcryx and Meepo in an effort to get the pair to side with them, only to fall on deaf ears.   Finally our heroes came across the center of Durbuluk activity. Hostilities almost immediately erupted as the party pressed into the hub, killing all those that stood against them. The few goblins that survived the onslaught were the children and elderly, who were escorted to a nearby safe room. Even Calcyrx and Meepo joined in on the massacre. One of the defenders surrendered, but was promptly butchered by Markus at Meepo's request. In the aftermath, Alessandra continued to try and win over Calcryx, while Zalak investigated the hub further. He soon discovered a pseudo-throne room, where the Durbuluk tribe's chief, Durnn, and his many guards were discussing their next move against the party. Before they could enact any form of strategy, the party attacked the chieftain outright, setting in motion a final conflict.
