Neverwinter Stories: Book One – Chapter Fifteen

General Summary

While final preparations were being made, Alessandra pulled Erazek aside and had a casual conversation with him. During this she learned that not too long ago Worvil "the Weevil" had a run in with devil worshipers in the Crags, but details of the encounter were only known to the dwarf in question.
Meanwhile, Miguel went to investigate the curious glint he saw at the beyond the grate in the Old Tower. The tabaxi found the decomposing body of Balsag in the pit below. Brought to tears, Miguel said his goodbyes, took the bugbear's antler crown, and vowed to find a way to bring him back.
With all preparations complete, our heroes and company split into two teams: red and blue. The blue team had their course set for Xantharl's Keep. On their second and final day of travel, they ran into a dying dwarf miner, Barilmas, who they promptly revived. From him, They learned that he was attacked by an unusual wyvern, one that matched descriptions of the wyvern the party was given by Vurnor Leng.
They pressed onward to the settlement, arriving late in the day. Their entry was briefly stopped by Gravelgut, but Vathoc (one of the dwarves they saved) and Barilmas convinced him otherwise. Once inside the settlement, blue team wasted no time. They marched the the keep proper and went strait to Narbeck Horn's office. The noble dwarf obliged, but he was cautious about them since he heard about their saving of the dwarves, but also about how they caused the death of his son-in-law, Dazlyn Grayshard. Apparently, they had not killed all of the oozed inside the ancient temple, and one of the remaining ones killed the prospector. Wanting to earn the noble's trust, the party warned him of GeorGedor's coming attack, and offered to help in its defense. Narbeck agreed, and told them to prepare before heading to the main gate and supporting Gravelgut and an allied druid, Reidoth.
With some minor preparations they all set off. At the battlements Markus met with Reidoth, who gave him a magic acorn, and the rest regrouped with Jh'an Relic and Gravelgut. Through pouring rain GeorGedor came, riding a skeletal thunderbeast and backed by dozens of giantkin. His demands for Narbeck's map fell on deaf ears, as did his army. The gate to Xantharl's Keep tried to hold steady, and many giants were felled, but even with the support of our heroes those door eventually came crashing down to the sorcerer's overwhelming power. With Gravelgut mortally wounded and the party having been bested, they retreated to the relative safety of the town. However, when they turned to flee they saw Alessandra's horse, Swift, being stolen by a dwarf pursued by an entourage of bugbears.
