Long Live The King, part 1

General Summary

Episode #075

The party runs for their lives as Straad razes the battlefield. As the dragon lands and tears into the gathered armies, they split and run for the cover of their respective camps.

A lone Half-Orc rides towards the treeline and stops his horse in front of the group, trying to get them to stop but they all ignore him and keep running, making it to the relative safety of the trees and the gathered Elves.

Straad attacks the city of Overwatch directly as the party weighs their options and everyone turns to Thoril when Ironhide asks why there is a dragon. Some argue that Thoril is as guilty as Karrik for not stopping him or giving him 'the nod' while some appeal to Brettana to leave him alone until they finish the battle. Karrik interrupts and is killed by Brettana's guards on the spot and attempt to take Thoril away for execution. Drakonis tries to take the horn from Karrik's body but is stopped initially, then allowed after Hondo speaks to Brettana on his behalf.

Thoril owns his decision after coming out on the losing side of the argument. He says his goodbyes to the group but before he can be taken away, Ironhide stabs him in the back, killing him instantly. Yenward walks off, disgusted with what he has just witnessed and Duncan, Drakonis and Hondo follow leaving Ironhide and Diana by themselves. Duncan soon stops Yenward and talks him into finishing what they all started and he agrees, but not without some words for Ironhide first.

They again speak with Brettana who tells them that Nathaniel lives and they go to see him. Duncan leaves Thoril's possessions near Nathaniel and that segment of the episode finishes.

A short scene plays out between Malchus and Tessia at House Dragonkeep at the end.

Episode #076

With a free day to wait for Craig to arrange their meeting with Marcus, Una decides to go to the tattoo shop and Marrek and Calluna tag along.

Fie continues his search of the house, still unsuccessful in finding the hidden treasures but Jadzia actually finds a hidden hallway behind a bookcase in the library. She and Vallus investigate and find yet more bodies hanging in the room beyond and begin to take them from their hooks.

Across town, Marcus visits with Mayor Keller in an attempt to sway her opinion of the Overwatch and allow him to help her clean up the crime problems the city is facing. She tentatively agrees but asks for time to think it over, which he grants. The soldiers Marcus brought set up a camp outside of town while he and his officers stay at the Mayor's mansion.

When the party reconvenes back at the house, everyone smells the stench of decay and quickly search to find the cause. They all help pull the corpses out of the house and Liara leaves to make it to Overwatch to help with the battle.

Calluna and Vallus stay at the house while the rest of the group sets out to meet with the Mayor to offer their assistance to stop the local criminals. After a lengthy discussion, they finally convince Mayor Keller to deputize them officially and to look the other way when they deal with Marcus. Everyone returns to the house once again and rest for the night to give Una the rest she needs to be at full strength when they track down Marcus in the morning.

The following morning, everyone puts on their gear and they meet Craig who tells them they can find Marcus at the inn with his men eating breakfast. As the unsuspecting troops eat, Una levitates into the air and threatens the group with a violent end if they choose to stay and defend Marcus. All but 2 archers flee the room and Marcus surrenders without a fight. His last two men choose to surrender as well and watch as Jadzia blasts Marcus and Fie beheads him. Una throws his head at the archers and tells them to take it back to Overwatch and tell Carter it was them.

    Episode #077

Two days after Marcus is killed the group begins their clean up attempt. They learn about the Graycloaks, Fie and Una start to train Brie and Marrek restocks the house with food they can trust. Jadzia begins to notice noises within the walls of the house and wonders if she may be going crazy.

Everyone travels to a tavern called The Twin Foxes to speak with Cecil. Brie gets excited in an intimidate attempt and stabs Cecil in the hand, causing a short brawl which is defused by Una. He informs them of a large Dragonborn named Marrash who is running the Graycloaks and causing his own issues in town. They all leave Cecil and search for Marrash, who they find arguing with a town guard, Marrash stabs the guard in the chest, killing him and he is told he is under arrest as the party close in on him. As the battle continues, a Graycloak shoots Marrek with a crossbow, almost knocking him out but the result is unexpected. Marrek begins to change before everyones eyes and turns into a werewolf! The party fights harder than before, making sure to stay away from Marrek who fights to remain in control of his attacks. Jadzia eventually knocks Marrash out and Vallus attempts to murder Marrek and is stopped by the others. Marrash is taken back to the house and chained up in the dungeon, after which the party confronts Marrek and tells him they won't kick him out of the group but they need to find a way to deal with his condition.

Shortly after this discussion, Jadzia hears the noise in the wall again and Una knocks the wall down with her hammer and a small demon runs out, attacking Vallus but then hiding behind Jadzia. Sheldon is introduced, but is not given his name until episode 78

Fie continues to search the house while everyone rests following the fight with Marrash. He finally discovers a secret shaft leading down in the middle of a hallway with a small blood magic area and several chests at the bottom. He finds a chest full of valuables and another corpse in the chests and delivers the news to Jadzia.

Una and Brie spend time watching Marrash and finally discuss 'the kiss' before taking shifts resting and keeping an eye on the prisoner.

The next morning, Calluna and Fie hear the sound of breaking glass and Fie finds a note near a broken window in the front of the house. He checks outside and finds the house surrounded and delivers the note to Una who writes a return note and throws it out the door. Meanwhile, Marrek makes breakfast and is oblivious to the disturbance.

Una talks to Marrash between taking time to toss rocks with notes to the people outside of the house and learns he was hired by Silverclaw to destabilize the town. She then goes out to talk to Sariff, the leader of the group surrounding the house who tells her he is from House Silverclaw and they want Marrash delivered to them or everyone will die. Una invites him insides along with some of his guards to discuss the situation. Sariff extends an invitation to the entire group to join Silverclaw, which they debate for a long time.

They finally come to a decision and write up a contract for Sariff. The "Shield of Grace" is formed and Fie delivers the contract, accepting Sariff's deal without the rest of the party knowing all of the details.

They turn over Marrash, who is presumably tortured and killed by Silverclaw.

After the fight with Trevor, the group tries to figure out how to deal with Haven after he is bitten. They return to Lochfort. Khoury and Haven wait outside of town while the others go in to collect their payment, finish their business in town and leave. They decide to make their way to Uman' Yiro to research a cure of some sort for Haven.

The group decides not to risk staying in town and having Haven get discovered so they walk out of town and camp not too far away. They are alerted to the sound of a large creature nearby and while they douse the fire and try to hide are discovered by a large briar troll.

A fight unavoidably starts and Haven is immediately hit hard, causing him to lose control and turn into a werewolf. The fight goes well for the party for a few moments before quickly looking bleak. The troll knocks Sevedus out, then later double hits Trixy, killing her instantly and then turning his attention to Acteronis. Everyone continues to fight as the troll slams Acteronis with a fist, crushing his armored form into the ground. Daegon, sensing things are going to end badly, lands a force punch followed by Decimate which kills the troll and sends the bodies of Trixy and Acteronis into a crevasse.

Haven, still in wolf form, begins to attack Sevedus who is still bleeding and unconscious on the ground. With no way to heal or help at this point, Khoury and Daegon flee the field, not sure whether they should run back to Lochfort or make their way to Whitehedge leaving Haven to deal with the aftermath on his own.

    Episode #080

2 days have passed since the encounter with Sariff, when a knock at the door reveals two Graycloaks have come to talk.

They give the party some details about Sariff and his association with House Silverclaw and Marrash and explain that he may be working on his own and might not be associated with Silverclaw at this point.

After they leave, Fie and Briahna go to see Cecil at the Twin Foxes pub and their intimidation attempt fails, leaving them lucky to leave without things turning violent. They return to the house and explain the situation, and then returning in full force, minus Brie who stays at the house.

Once they enter, little talk is exchanged before a fight erupts. The group focuses on Cecil and after Vallus knocks him out, Marrek simply picks him up, leaves some gold for drinks and everyone leaves with an unconscious Cecil in tow.

    Episode #081

We open on the remaining combatants from the gathered armies, at the camp following Straad's exit from the battle. Yenward picks Duncan up over his head, Lion King style and Duncan gives a rousing speech to the crowd, after which Poe and Liara arrive to join the fight. Liara tells Yenward that Brie is alive and they have a moment, Poe tells everyone that Durnhollow has been freed from the Overwatch and that Ellis Arroway is dead. The group decides to charge the gates before the city has a chance to regroup as a thunderstorm starts to build overhead. The plan is to get the Dwarves close to the gate to set some explosives in a crack opened up by Straad. To help with the effort, Drakonis takes a hit of bloodroot and amps up his fireballs for the fight. On the way to the gate, the army is pelted with volleys of arrows and fire pots, while the mages and Elves try to take out the archers on the walls. They finally make it to the gates and the Dwarves successfully breach the walls, allowing access to the city.

Once inside the city, the group is immediately attacked by Overwatch soldiers which they dispatch without much issue and set their eyes on Castle Overwatch. They meet more guards at the castle gate and force their way inside.

Once inside, there are several options the party has to choose from: upstairs, downstairs or investigating the main floor. They decide to poke around just a little and find Loreweaver's room and his experiments within, Diana takes his journals to read later. After this they head upstairs to the door of the throne room everyone catches their breath for a moment. Yenward throws Stormrender at the doors, blasting them from their hinges as the 'heroes' enter the room. Carter gives a monologue about their fight being in vain, and calls out what might be Gavin, Una, Jadzia and Fie and a large Tiefling only referred to as "The Red" to assist in the fight.

The fight begins and Liara tells everyone that these are not the real Crimson Shield members and Diana starts by incapacitating Gavin and Fie. Jadzia immobilizes Yenward with Iron Spike of Dis, which begins his slow descent into madness as he is unable to hit anyone for most of the fight but in a fit of rage throws Stormrender at the large stained glass window, angering Carter. The battle continues and Carter is able to drop Ironhide and Hondo but is bloodied by Fie who has been controlled by Diana. Carter uses Thermacks phylactery to summon his spectre to fight at his side for a time.

Yenward finally frees himself from his predicament and through a streak of misses from everyone, charges at Carter and kills him with a brute strike, knocking him out of the window of the tower. As the fight continues, the clones start to fall and soon Thermack dissolves as Carter finally hits the ground below, destroying the phylactery. "The Red" helps finish off the others and then kneels to surrender, dropping his sword.

The party takes a moment to see who he is but the show ends and the cast discuss the episode for a while before signing off.

    Episode #082

The party brings Cecil back to the house but aren't quite sure how to handle things with him yet. They decide to let Briahna rouse him and she does so with a backhand to the face. She fails to intimidate Cecil and he begins to berate her. Not to be outdone, she grabs a bucket of human waste and throws it at him bucket and all, striking him in the chest and face. As the group attempts to scare Cecil, they all hear the sound of a distant horn but only Fie and Calluna know what it might be. Fie decides to escalate the interrogation and gets Cecil to talk. Cecil tries to make a deal with the group to share control of the town and they leave him alone in the room while they go to 'discuss their options' but not before Fie sets the poop bucket upside down over Cecil's head.

Everyone rushes up to the living room while Fie and Calluna try to fill everyone in on the horn. Fie and Una run to the second floor and out onto the roof and can see Straad in the distance attacking what they can only assume is the Overwatch. As the team discusses what they need to do, Brie leaves the house and attempts to find a horse to ride to the Evergreen to check on Liara and the Ravens. Una stops her in the street and begins to scream at her for being useless, hoping that making her angry will force her powers to return. The plan seems to backfire as Brie begins to get distraught instead of mad, but after Una brings her dead sisters and mother into the mix, Briahna snaps and force punches Una across the square and through an apple cart causing a giant commotion.

Calluna witnesses all of this and hurriedly buys all of the apples from the vendor and tries to collect as many as she can. Before she can retreat to the house with her apple bounty, Straad buzzes the town at a low altitude sending apples everywhere and people running for cover. All members of the group who were in the street run back to the house to figure out how to deal with this new threat. Una wants to run and fight it and Vallus tells them that his mom has a dragon in Brightport that they may be able to use to fight Straad. During the discussion, Craig almost beats down the door to get Una's attention and she tells him to gather the paladins for a fight. Una, Brie, Craig and a large group of paladins from the temple ride south to try and draw Straad away from Esterholt while the rest of the group prepares to leave for Brightport.

Marrek and Fie release Cecil who immediately runs out of the house to find his own safe place to hide.

    Episode #083

The weary group continues their adventure through the crypt and opening the last chest in the room. Upon opening the chest, they discover it is a specific case for the great axe kept within. The axe is of Dragonborn build given to the Elves and the name translates roughly to "Skull Splitter". Kava claims the axe as Travis stacks coffins in the doorway so they can get some rest.

After they rest the continue on their way through the dungeon in search of the bowl. Shavvar manages to awaken another room full of skeletons while attempting to be stealthy and the rest of the party attempts to lock him in the room with them to teach him a lesson. He quickly opens an arcane gate into the hallway allowing the party to come in and help him and the skeletons to get out forcing the others to help kill them.

Once the skeletons are defeated they keep searching and find a thin walkway with deep pits on either side and hammer traps to knock people into the pits. Nem crosses in gas form and then waits for the others to cross. Travis pushes Shavvar onto the walkway to test for traps, which he finds and is almost knocked into one of the pits. Nem helps to pull him back onto the walkway and they are attacked by spiders. After that, everyone begins to cross the bridge to fight and several are almost killed in the process, but once they kill the spiders and make it across, they find the Gravy Boat of Pestilence in the next room.

The group decides to take another rest and once they are healed up try to continue the search. They find more traps and in one of the last rooms Shavvar finds some solid gold weapons hanging on a wall. He tries to take a dagger and the door slams shut locking him inside, needing rescue from the others. The party beats the door down and rescues Shavvar but afterwards they decide they have had enough of the traps and head for the exit.

As the weary group exits,Kava attacks Shavvar and knocks him unconscious, nearly killing him. The others steal all of the gold weapons and Kayleth heals him back up.

    Episode #084

The party members all leave Esterholt, but not together. Jadzia, Fie, Calluna, Marrek and Vallus begin to travel to Fairbay by way of Lochfort. About an hour outside of Esterholt, Fie notices they are being tailed by a group of riders who are not being very stealthy. They ride hard to a large bridge spanning a rushing river and wait for their pursuers.

Briahna and Una ride with Craig and the paladins of Kord towards Odysia, hoping to meet Straad along the way.

Back at the bridge, Fie moves to the halfway point and is joined by a man who introduces himself as Jeremy Kavens, under the employ of one Cecil Fowers. He asks politely for Fie to hand over Una and Brie and is told that they went after Straad and Jeremy apologizes for causing them so much trouble and seems to feel genuinely bad. When he goes back to tell Cecil the news, Cecil throws what is described as "a hissy fit" and nearly falls from his horse. The party leaves, wondering if perhaps they should have hired Jeremy out from under Cecil.

Una, Brie and the paladins finally make it to Odysia and spot Straad perched upon the highest tower in the city. Una gives a motivational speech to the assembled warriors, climbs an adjacent building and blows her war horn to get Straad's attention.

Straad, furious, launches himself from his vantage point and assaults the building Una is in. She uses Wind Step to leap to his face and the fight is on!

Shortly, paladins begin to fall to Straad's might while Craig and Una try to do as much damage as they can. Craig is soon flung across the plaza by a tail slap, falling from a ledge and is presumed dead. Straad, seeing victory breaths fire, incinerating several more paladins.

Una, who at this point is clinging to Straad's foot while he takes flight, tells Briahna to flee which she does after a parting shot at the dragon. By the time Brie escapes, Una is the only one left standing and goes toe to toe with Straad, throwing everything she has left at him but it just isn't enough. She is finally silenced with a brutal tail slap that followed a massive bite and fire attacks.

The episode ends with the cast's reactions to the episode and a short cool down chat.

Meanwhile, Brie makes her way to Esterholt and heads directly to the temple where she finds Julie, one of the only higher ranking members of the church. Briahna demands to go through the same rite that Una did and is refused as she is not a member of the following of Kord. Bria grabs Julie by the throat and forces her to resurrect Una.

On the road out of Whitehedge, the party smells smoke and finds a ransacked wagon on the side of the road. Vallus tells the rest of the group to ride ahead and he will deal with this issue but Fie steps in and sneaks into the clearing where 2 people are being held captive by gnolls. Fie alerts the party who quickly take down the gnolls and rescue the prisoners.

Una speaks two words "There's nothing" and immediately grabs her hammer and starts destroying anything in the temple with the symbol of Kord on it and then finally breaking down in tears when she is done.

The rest of the party finally makes it to Brightport after days on the road. Vallus leads them through the city, straight to House Dragonskeep. David answers the door and soon everyone is sitting down to tea with Tessia to discuss why they have come across the continent and their request to use Amarah to help fight Straad.

Back in Esterholt Brie and Una have gone back to the mansion. Brie tells her what happened to Straad after she fell and after some conversation Una jumps up and plunges her arms into the fireplace, burning off her tattoos of Kord and healing herself while she burns.

    Episode #092

Following the battle in the throne room, the group has to decide what to do with "The Red" who has surrendered and even helped finish the fight after Carter was killed. Yenward moves him toward the window and offers to let him take the stairs instead if he explains what is going on. He tells them his name is Ardos and that Carter was holding his daughter, forcing him to be a bodyguard and that he wants to go find her which they allow. Yenward then turns his attention to an unconscious Ironhide, propping him up in the window, waking him enough to talk and telling him to jump. Ironhide attempts to defend his decisions about murdering Thoril which fall on deaf ears, Liara reclaims her sword from him before Yenward gores him and drops him from the tower.

At this point, Poe enters the room and tells everyone that the Drow are searching for Marcus and setting fires all over town. He also tells them that they have found Rodswell. Everyone but Drakonis leaves the room to go deal with the new problems but first take a moment at ground level to loot Carter's corpse before moving to find Rodswell.

Once at the temple, Yenward crushes the door and Duncan asks Liara to let him speak to Rodswell first. A touching scene between father and son takes place, ending with Duncan stabbing Rodswell in the gut with a dagger, killing him.

Drakonis rejoins the party and they set out to stop the armies from destroying what is left of the town while Diana goes back to the castle to look for Ardos. She finds him kicking in a door and coming back out of the room holding his dead daughter. She leaves him to his grief and begins searching but finds only mutilated corpses and then three living children, one tiefling boy and two Elven sisters. She directs them to go upstairs in the castle to wait out the rest of the violence.

Hondo runs across the city until he finds Ora Klad, leader of the Drow and implores her to stop setting fires and they will help her find Marcus. She agrees and everyone meets in the city square so Diana can address the armies and Overwatch citizens.

As she speaks, the assorted races stop attacking guards and civilians and the remaining Overwatch troops surrender to their fates.

All in attendance will begin their new lives free of tyranny soon enough.

A few hours later, Hondo finds Diana in her room and they chat about plans that Hondo has to change the world. he asks Diana to be his right hand but she refuses to blindly follow, but accepts that maybe she can help.

    Episode #093

After the fight with Cecil and his gang the group takes some time to look around the city and some ponder what trophies they can pull from Straad's corpse.

Daegon begins searching the old Council building and finds nothing but burned books and disappointment. The group finds a spot to camp for the night with hopes of resuming the search in the morning. Layla makes it to Odysia in the morning and rejoins the party as Daegon brings everyone to his old home and discovers a cache his family had left hidden.

Braylon pitches an idea of going to find Straad's treasure horde but is told they are going to try to go to Yemgar swamp to see the Witch about Khoury's lithoderms. Before leaving, they strip the dragon's body of scales, meat and anything else of value and make their way to the docks.

They find a relatively untouched Eladrin ship called the Alu'Yaanda, which translates roughly to "The Drifting Blade" and Daegon gives permission for all to board.

    Episode #094

The party boards Amarah and flies to Esterholt to meet up with Una. They land outside of town but tell Amarah she can land in the hedge maze. Before they make it to the house, they are met in the street by Briahna who warns them about Una's death. And then they all go to the house.

Una explains her death experience as Calluna makes tea. Amarah lands in the hedge maze and everyone goes out back to be introduced to her.

Brie retreats back inside and soon can be heard discussing loudly with someone and everyone goes back in. Julie has come from the temple to talk to Una and Brie and attempt to reclaim the weapons of Kord. Naturally, Fie and Una refuse to give the weapons back as Una attempts to intimidate the paladins but fails and Julie tries to take the weapons back with force.

Both sides attempt to subdue the other and soon Vallus knocks Julie out as the few remaining paladins look on. Una tells them to take their comrades out of the house but not before scratching her name into Julie's sword and armor.

The group decides it is time to leave Esterholt and make a plan to have Amarah take them to Overwatch so Briahna can see how the war turned out.

    Episode #095

The next morning the party talks to Liara and eventually make their way to the war council meeting to discuss and vote on who will run the city of Overwatch. Duncan immediately nominates Liara and after some convincing arguments of the validity of having another human leading Overwatch, Liara is eventually voted in as Queen.

Following the meeting, Liara sets off to start her work and gives the group permission to do some searching and looting as thanks for overthrowing Carter. Hondo begins searching and finds some cash and a secret panel in Tenbolt's chambers that contain a locker full of Patrick Grace's possessions.

Duncan has a chat with King Stonesunder about the dwarves that killed his mother and Yenward and Drakonis loot their way through the castle until they can't carry any more. One last item remains to loot and that is Carters crown. Yenward sheepishly picks it up and Liara just tells him to take it and get out, which he does.

Once the group gets back together, Drakonis has another bloodroot episode and nearly burns down part of the castle by spraying fire uncontrollably until Yenward stops him.

Soon after, the party decides that they need to pursue Loreweaver as Diana fills them in on the experiments and the biological weapon.

    Episode #096

The new crew of the Drifting Blade set sail but quickly notice a body perched on the cliff outside of Odysia. Layla and Khoury talk the rest into going back to check on the body. They, along with Braylon row the dingy towards the cliff and after reaching a small ledge above the body, Khoury finds that it is still breathing. Thinking quickly, they fashion a harness and begin to lower Braylon down to heal the person.

After Braylon sings a healing song to stabilize the paladin, the ladies pull he and Braylon back up.

Once back on the ship, they are again on their way around the coast. The first day is uneventful but as the second day passes, Aralove sees Overwatch on the coast and opens to a little to Daegon. Overnight, the weather turns bad as a storm begins to rage. Wind and rain batter the ship and the crew begins to hear strange noises as large heads peek up over the sides of the ship and attack.

Mid-fight, Snickers is grabbed by 2 hydra heads, ripped in half and pulled overboard to be devoured. Khoury lands the killing blow on the hydra and stares overboard for any sign of Snickers.

Braylon and Daegon go below deck to check on their passenger and find him awake and trying to stand.
