We go downstairs through a tavern and a hallway, and as we near the dungeon we see Tam at a distance. Quell messages him and says "Tam, is that you?" He says yes, with company unfortunately. Quell lets us know he needs help so we follow her down to where he's standing. He's yelling at a half elf about how he doesn't THINK he's better than him, he IS better than him, because HIS experiments don't end up with a deliberate body count and HE doesn't do them at someone's farm!
When we enter, Tam tells us this is Thyrren, who CLAIMS he knows nothing about the beast we killed last night. Thyrren asks who we are, and when Wulf introduces himself, he asks are you going to eat me?? Quell says we might... but to me that seems racist of you. Wulf asks how he tastes, before explaining that he does not eat people. Quell asks if he knows Irrin, and says their names seem alike. He asks if we're offering anything for this information, or are we just going to go on threats of violence we're "too weak" to carry out? Cali laughs accidentally, and Quell tells him we have not made any threats yet and she was just wondering if he knew Irrin because she thought maybe idiots who summon things know each other. He is offended by this. Tam tells him that he should listen to us because we're good people, and says all the other guys out there are probably going to be sent home because they were just following orders and knew nothing of the politics of the situation.
Thyrren continues demanding what we're going to give him for this information and Wulf says perhaps we will LET you keep all your appendages.
We find out that Thyrren is a mercenary for the Jarl and wants a head start from the other guys at the bench. He very slowly starts telling a drawn out story, and Jade gets fed up and casts suggestion. She tells him to tell us specific details about the summoning and his contract with the Jarl.
He tells us that he was just supposed to summon some basic creatures like bears or whatever, but didn't expect to summon someone else's weird clawed beast experiment thing. Said it seemed to have gone well, killed one guard, until everyone ran. That's all he knew until he was dragged here. Tam rolls his eyes and thanks him for the FOUR HOURS, and thanks Jade for her help.
Tam gives us an emerald for our time, and Lady Sophie gives us a linen bag with a magical amethyst, a ruby carved into a poppy, and some gold. We have completed our missions here, so Quell messages Setluk that we should be back around mid afternoon, and she hopes everything "went okay" with his "hostage situation". She also tells him we have passage at the harbor.
Setluk responds that he's alive and gives us general directions to find him in a cave by the beach. He says "she says to bring rum, couldn't hurt". Quell relays this to us. We are all still very confused on who is the hostage.
We make our way down to where the sea caves are. We find one that seems like it could be where he is, so we start to explore it. Quell listens at the fork to figure out which direction to go, and we head down the silent path. We run into 2 ghosts who take gold for answers to our questions and imply they died in here trying to get gold from "the holy place" further down the cave.
Further down, we come to a door. It shoots a dagger out at Quell when she tries to pick the lock. It misses her, so she picks it up and keeps it. Wulf determines there might be more knives in the door so at Quell's suggestion we all clear the way. She lies down on the floor and bumps the handle with her thunder stick. Another knife comes out but with less gusto. One more comes out and after that it seems she's emptied the door. She keeps all 3 of them and stands up. She picks the lock and we enter what looks like a smuggler's den. Cali takes a dusty crate and blocks the doorway with it just in case the door tries to swing shut, especially now that we're on high alert for water. Quell notes how much dust is in this room, which is also a good sign that it doesn't fill with water regularly. It seems as though this room isn't often messed with.
Jade, who should be our resident investigator, finds a piece of wall that opens. Secret tunnellllll! A spider scurries out of the way, and it is noted that it is NOT big enough to eat us.
There's a hallway behind this secret door, and Jade sees some evocation magic down the way. We find another door with a latch, not a lock. Quell comes back up and explores some stairs that seem to lead into a building, and then eventually decides to go back and cast dispel magic on the door. We enter and see Setluk supporting a woman named Branna who is chained to the ceiling and a dead guy on the floor. He greets us and Quell goes okay so... you are the hostage or you have the hostage? It seems like the dead guy on the floor took Setluk as a hostage but underestimated him.
Branna speaks Naghi and is relieved that Quell can understand her. Cali understands it too but doesn't let on. Branna says she was a sailor and they took on passengers they shouldn't have. The dead guy took her hostage as well. Setluk was there to her rescue, but can't get her down from the chains because they burn her every time he tries to take them off.
Wulf pokes the dead guy to no avail, and Cali searches the body. They find a silver holy symbol which Quell recognizes as a basic Schildling ancestral symbol, a dagger, and a leather pouch with several magical looking items. They wave Jade over to look at the items. There are two finger bones, a snowflake, a charred scroll, and a couple of other items as well. We will ponder what to do with these next session.
