Session 58: Quell is Cali's Imaginary Friend

Uffric is confused. He asks if Wulf and Jade are going to leave now? Wulf misses Uffric's sarcasm. Uffric asks Jade if she's gonna see the Lady of the Lake. Jade is like "about what?" She successfully pretends to be oblivious and then starts to leave. Quell sneaks out as Jade leaves. Cali is still scrunched up under the bed. After a few minutes, Uffric picks up the sphere in silence and stares at it for a hot minute before speaking into it. It glows, and in Schildling, he says "bastard. Beasts in the woods... one dead... don't know if I'll be making it back." He rubs it and the glow fades and he does toss it at the wall. It does not break. Cali waits him out while he stares at the wall. Quell messages him in his head "you know what you should do. you should confess to your sins." It's in traders cant. He scrambles toward the sphere and stares at it, and then yells in Schildling: "YOU LITTLE MAGELING BASTARD I SHOULD'VE KILLED YOU!!" Quell says "I am not in there. But you are here and you know what you should do." He looks around, cursing, and starts going through the chest. He puts on a cloak and stomps out of the room. Quell follows him, still invisible, and Cali slips out of the room, and follows him as well.
 
Jade and Wulf arrive at Lady Sophie's office first. Dagur is there and Jade debriefs them on what happened in the room. Dagur and Lady Sophie share a look and Dagur leaves to go find him. Lady Sophie shares some worries with Jade and Wulf about the motives and who it was ultimately that hired him to do this. Jade asks Wulf what exactly it was that Uffric was saying and he retells as much as he can remember. Lady Sophie is FURIOUS. "By mistake???? He killed a dozen of my people BY MISTAKE????" She excuses herself to speak with Dagur.
 
Cali and Quell are following Uffric, who is not even trying to take note of his surroundings. He hides from a group of guards and then takes off through the door to the courtyard. Quell whispers in Cali's ear "I'm here too" and they jump out of their skin. He shakes himself a bit and twists a ring on his finger, which makes him not invisible but much more difficult to see. He tries to dart away from the grounds and Cali asks Quell if she could message the others. He easily picks the lock at the gate to exit the grounds and slips out. Quell hangs back and then messages Jade with details about where he snuck out and what he's wearing, and that we're following him. Jade says she'll tell Lady Sophie.
 
Jade and Wulf take off after Lady Sophie, though they have to search a bit to figure out which direction she went. They find her weighing different spears in her hand and Jade relays the info. "Leaving??" She says. slamming her spear on the ground. "No, no I don't think so." She takes Wulf, Jade, and some guards, and goes straight away after him. Dagur runs after them and asks Lady Sophie to try to handle this a little more quietly. She says "HE'S ESCAPING. We can be quiet when we catch him."
 
Cali and Quell are still following him off the grounds. Cali loses sight of him but Quell does not, so she grabs them, still invisible, and pulls them in the direction of where he's going. He starts to slow way down, trying to decide which way to go, and we start to hear him doing a two-tone whistle. Pretty soon after, we hear all the footsteps approaching from behind us of Lady Sophie, Dagur, etc. Uffric breaks into a dead run in response, and Cali breaks into a run as well, throwing stealth out the window. Quell throws one of her force beads at him to trap him inside. The first one misses but does knock him over momentarily. She throws another and successfully traps him. Quell goes up to the cage and again says "you know what you should do." Cali is doubled over, out of breath.
 
Uffric stands, bloody and bruised. He insults Quell's parents in Schildling. Cali tells him that was rude, and tells Quell what he said. She says that IS rude. He says "you'd know about rude, wouldn't you, Tam Flokeson????" Quell goes "nope, try again."
 
The cavalry approaches. Quell once more says "you KNOW what you should do now."
 
Dagur sidles up to Cali and says "nicely done." They tell him the forcefield was actually Quell and point in whatever direction they think Quell is. There's an awkward silence and Cali explains that Quell is invisible. After another moment of silence she says hello!
 
Uffric turns his ring again and becomes fully visible again. He says he'll tell them what happened but wants amnesty for his men. Cali says forgive me if I'm stepping on any toes here, but it doesn't seem like you have any leverage or room to bargain. Dagur suggests that he's dead either way, but if his men give theirselves up, they won't be the ones to kill him. Lady Sophie asks if we can move the forcefield or if we have to get him out of it first? Cali looks around and asks for Quell, who, still invisible, says it'll fade away shortly. We make sure he's surrounded, weapons drawn, and once it dissipates the guards grab him. He doesn't fight it, and we all go back to the castle. Quell's invisibility finally ends on the way there.
 
Lady Sophie sends some guards into the woods to look for his men, and they take Uffric to a dungeon. Lady Sophie thanks us and says she'll put together a reward tomorrow. Quell asks what they're gonna do with him. She says they have a truth-telling device and will figure it out. We head back and go to bed.
 
We sleep in a bit the next day and in the morning wake up to a lovely, buttery smell. Cali pulls Quell aside and asks her to message Ivy to check in. Ivy says they're fine and starts to say something about a villager, and if--but then says anyway stay warm and stay safe. Cali is a bit worried but thanks Quell. She asks if they want to go visit and Cali confirms. Quell says they'll add it to the list. Cali thanks her again and then, to change the subject away from emotions, suggests they go get something to eat.
 
When we get downstairs, we don't see anyone we know except Jade and Wulf. We start to seek out the food that is being cooked down here, and Quell hears Setluk in her head. He says that he'll meet us soon hopefully with a new ally. He says the killer is a cleric. It's a bit unclear as to whether he is a hostage or he has a hostage. Quell relays the message to us.
 
After breakfast, Quell approaches a teenager and asks him if he knows where Tam is? He asks why and she tells him we're friends who came with him. He says that Tam went to the dungeons, but the teen wasn't allowed to go with him. We head to the dungeons after that.
