Session 37: Wulf & Jade (separately) Bond With Tulan

Jade makes sure to get her cloak back from Tulan. She is imprinting on the child, but not in the jacob from twilight way,
more like the duckling way. The villagers start piling the bodies together and Cali and Wulf help them do that. The party sticks
together as a unit to help the encampment clean up from the battle. Later in the day, an elderly man limps up to Quell and asks her
if she's a cleric. He gives her a colorful strand with beads on it, and she immediately ties it to her staff. He asks her to make
more water, and she does so with magic, filling any container she can. Cali helps sew tents back together with their knowledge from
sewing canopies growing up. We all do our part to help the town until night falls.
 
Upon nightfall, the camp has a ritual by the graves they dug during the day, and Quell casts tongues so she can hear what is said.
They honor the dead before burying them. We have a talk with the leader of the village and he asks us where we're headed. We tell
him we're going to Vlotdok next, and he tells us about the nearest port town, Maraida, which should help us acquire a boat. Wulf
says maybe he can work as a sailor again to get free passage. Maraida should take a little less than a week if we take the main
road, which will be dangerous. Once we hit the Jhou river, we'll know we're close. The whole town speaks trader cant, it seems,
but there will be a variety of languages out there. We thank him, and he gives us a folded leather case with a piece of
sea-smoothed quartz pendant with twine wrapped around it that's supposed to let the holder of it breathe underwater and protect
us from the cold. He says it never got any use, but he hopes it works.
 
Jade gives the decanter to Tulan, after telling her that she was brave in battle. It's a very cute and wholesome moment with the
only person in town that Jade likes. She tells her how it works and Tulan promises to keep it very safe. Wulf offers to hunt for the
townsfolk. Cali glances around for a town psychic but doesn't see anyone who fits that description. They put on the barnacle-covered
bracelet instead, and for a moment hear distantly the sound of the ocean. It doesn't quite make sense, so they try to focus on it and
listen harder, but as they do, the feeling dissipates. Wulf finds Tulan and tells her about Mother and how he grew up. They bond, and
he tells her to always cook the meat and spice it, but not too spicy. Tulan was raised by mammoths, and so Wulf bonds with this
metaphorical stray wolf, and they both hope to see each other again in the future. He gives her a spear.
 
One of the village elders gives Wulf a small leather bag that holds 20gp and a small tarnished silver figure of a raven that seems
magical. Jade identifies it as a figurine of wondrous power. She tells us that it becomes a raven. Wulf asks if it can be emergency
food. Cali asks what the point is. Jade gets frustrated with us and tells us that it can fly and understand us, and that no, we
cannot eat it. Cali still looks unconvinced but stops asking questions. Wulf tells us that ravens are difficult prey because they
are too smart. Wulf keeps the raven.
 
In the morning, we hit the road with the instructions that were given to us. On day 3, a small wildcat gets Cali's attention from the
side of the road, and we follow it to a clearing in the woods. There's an animal-made hole, presumably the cat's home, and there's a
wooden door that's been placed inside to block the way. Jade opens the door with mage hand, and the cat goes inside, and comes back
out with a feather in its mouth. It leaves, and Quell sends rabbit inside, holding a lantern in the doorway so we can see what's
inside. Quell pulls out what's inside: a bag of 44gp, a beaded amber&turqouise necklace, & a megical metal bottle wrapped in twine.
Jade detects magic on it, and it has an aura of conjuration. Jade asks Wulf to find the cat and rips out a tooth and gives it to him.
Jade squeezes partway inside the hole and looks around, but the only thing written or carved is a single carving of a leaf.
 
Wulf finds the cat, who is still walking with the feather. He asks it if the stuff in the hole is for us, and the cat seems to
confirm, and he asks if it's safe and he seems hesitant. He gets Wulf to follow him to another clearing with a tall standing stone
that is clearly manmade, and curls up underneath it with the feather still in his mouth. Wulf is confused and heads back to the party.
We wonder about the cat, and Cali suggests it might be a wizard's familiar or something. Quell asks Jade if familiars look magic.
She wouldn't have been able to tell while the cat was still there, but as unusual as it is, it's certainly possible.
