Liniksha offers to put us up for the night, but will have trouble feeding us. Wulf offers to catch something and immediately turns to leave. Liniksha gives him a mask for the back of his head to trick the mountain lions.
Wulf catches a small deer pretty quickly. It smells a little different from the deer back home and has tusks instead of antlers. It is edible though, and so he brings it to a bonfire in the middle of town. He’s approached by a small child named Utsang, who makes conversation and introduces him to his grandmother. Wulf agrees to split the deer with the grandmother in exchange for her helping cook it.
At the grandmother’s house, Utsang asks if Wulf has seen his parents. They’ve been gone for longer than usual. They’re merchants who were on their way to the Meerleander, maybe Dria after that.
We decided to talk to Tribuvham tonight and bring him some of the deer so he’ll be more willing to talk to us about the necromancer. Wulf is disgusted to learn that raw meat grows worms in your belly. He slices off a chunk of raw meat for Tribuvham and we head over.
Wulf wants to borrow some twine to make a necklace. “Meat necklace. Eat as you go.” -not really, but a funny moment
There is an injured wolf pup in Tribuvham’s home, sleeping. We quickly find out that the necromancer is in Hyena valley, killing lots of Tribuvham’s men and even wolf packs, hence the injured pup. The necromancer sets up traps where anything that dies, rises. Sometimes overnight and sometimes immediately. Tribuvham is overly pleased to learn that we’re willing to hunt down the necromancer, and pulls out a map for us.
“You do realize if you do this, you’re taking your life into your own hands.” -T “…Our lives… are always… in our hands…” -W
Jade can read the map, and Tribuvham indicates a trail. He says not to touch anything on the road, or any dead trees. The Great Hunter was a helpful ghost from centuries ago, but he disappeared as soon as the necromancer moved in. T tells us to meet some of his allies at a marked location about 3 hours from town. We intend to leave in the morning.
Cali casts cure wounds on the injured wolf pup, and Wulf attempts to converse with him. They bond, and Wulf promises to come back when he can. We have to head back to Utsang’s place for the night, and Wulf is v sad to have to leave the pup here. The pup’s name temporarily is Kukura. Quell gives Wulf twine to make a tooth necklace with, and Cali plays with their soft moss from the ledge.
The next morning, Wulf stops in to say goodbye to the wolf pup, and we head out. On the road, we encounter a small horse with a gash on his leg, moving slowly through the grass. Wulf casts speak with animals and Quell scouts the area. The horse says it was attacked, and it won the fight but then its pet parent (“leader”) was gone and there was no hay, so it left. It thinks leader is back where we came from. Wulf is very judgmental of this horse because it’s domestic and not wild, and he sends the horse back to the town. We have strong smells, according to the horse, so it will not have issues.
We continue down the road, passing dead fallen trees as we go, and eventually come to a clearing. We are not alone. There are 3 wights and an alpine mummy here.
We do some combat, and wight one rolled a nat 1 to shoot an arrow at Quell. Cali is going to shoot both arrows at mummy dude this time because he paralyzed Wulf and made him take critical damage.
