We decide to continue on our journey for as long as we can, and get back in the leaf boat after Wulf confirms with Jade that the orchid woman can’t listen magically unless they’re beside a mirror. We continue on until it gets too late and we need to stop and make camp. Wulf secretly dreams of puppy piles. We find a spot by a hill that protects us from the wind, and Wulf goes to hunt for dinner. He catches an antelope, and Quell asks him to prepare it away from where they’ll be sleeping. Cali helps him prepare it for cooking. Wulf makes jerky. Quell listens for distant storms, and eventually we sleep.
In the morning, we set back on the river, and after a bit see a pillar of smoke. It seems to be the encampment we’re heading toward to bring them fresh water. The villagers are screaming as we approach. Wulf jumps off the boat ahead of us and runs into a 10 year old girl named Tulan who says that they’ve been attacked, but she can fight. She was looking for a mammoth, but instead comes with Wulf to tell us what’s going on, and then hops on Wulf’s back. Jade puts the cloak of displacement onto the child because she hates us but loves children, and we all book it to the camp. It’s still actively being attacked, and we run in fighting. It’s a harsh battle, and Temrin almost doesn’t make it, but we are ultimately successful and heal Temrin and each other after it’s over. We talk about the battle, and Quell casts rain upon the camp to distinguish most of the fire so the villagers don’t have to use the cursed river water. The dog we found the first time we came here, leads a group of children out from behind a bush.
