We make haste down the hallway, and as soon as Wulf sees someone coming, Quell runs back and casts hold person on the guard. He freezes just before putting the whistle to his mouth, and we all book it.
Cali lowers Bao down the trapdoor with a rope, and tells him not to forget to untie the rope from his chest. Immediately after that, they roll a 1 to hop down after him and twist their ankle. They limp a little, embarrassed. Wulf and Quell hop down after them, and Jade goes last so she can mage hand some debris back over the trap door for camoflauge.
We bolt down the hallway, and Wulf tries to convince Jade to hold on tight, spidermonkey. ...I mean, to get on his back. She doesn't, but he tries to act chill and offers to carry others too.
Nobody seems to be following us.
We get to the room with the corpses, and Bao drops to his knees. He can hear the spirits and tells us the names of the bodies in here. Someone speaks through him in Schildling to tell us that they aren't yet ghosts but will be soon. He asks Quell to put them to rest. Not all of them are still around, but there are 4 dwarves and a humanoid that still need to be laid to rest so they don't become ghosts. Wulf goes to help Izel with a sword she found because he understands that better.
We talk about the best way to honor the bodies that are here, and Bao tells us we probably have until the next full moon a few weeks away. Jade teaches us what she knows about burial practices, and our best guess for now is to make a shrine for them with the items we have and can find. Bao hums a lullaby while we set it up, called "Counting The Moons." Wulf says he only knows one, Lady Moon. Bao tells him about the meaning behind the song.
Wulf offers to sing a song that his pack used to sing when someone died, and Quell decides to go make sure no one is coming or could hear us. We seem to be clear, so she comes back and we finish setting up the shrine.
Wulf sings a beautiful howl and Quell says a few words, and Bao is able to think more clearly as we leave. Quell asks him some more questions about the crystal and spirits. Quell pulls out the crystal and Bao flinches.
Bao: "I would throw that thing deep down a well if I were you."
Quell: "We intend to."
Bao says that the crystal shards were not made, but were a part of a part of something that used to think.
Cali asks him about who took the shard, and he says it was hard to see, but one was a woman with a white mask and black eyes, and the other was a dwarven woman with a stump nose and two scars on her cheek like she'd been scratched by a large cat. Quell asks if they were blue, and Bao says that some of them were, and that they were all very small, maximum of 8.
We all make our way out of the house, mostly via rope, and Jade and Bao via dimension door. We talk to Bao and Izel about our plans going forward.
Colel outside of Tabajo, "the mad lady with the bees", is a friend of Bao's and will help get us where we need to be as a favor to Bao. Bao teaches Wulf how to catch an antelope.
