Wulf is happily eating his mammoth and forgets his table manners because he “loves eating new meat”. There is braided salad to be had as well. Quell is not eating any of the mammoth, and Jade is picking at hers, so Wulf offers to hunt something new for them.
Quell gives Wulf about half an hour to eat voraciously and enjoy the company of other men eating meat with their bare hands, and then we decide to head out. Quell lets them know that we intend to find fresh water for them by the time we come back.
We head out and find a river. There’s a small beach area where we plan to launch our boat, but there’s something odd about the plants here. Jade picks one of the purple spider lillies because they’re pretty. She then puts one in Wulf’s mother’s mouth, and then picks more because one isn’t enough. It is art. Jade tells him they’re called spider lillies, and Wulf nervously asks if there are spiders in them. Jade says probably not.
We pop out the leaf boat and start down the river. We make pretty good time, though toward sunset, it starts to storm a bit, and there’s a heavy fog that makes it dark a bit early. We pull off onto a bank, trying to avoid this, and decide to make camp. We consider resting underneath some trees to keep out of the rain, until we consider the possibility of lightning, and instead try to figure out the best way to keep the leaf boat expanded for shelter. Unfortunately, holding it upside down in the rain does not keep the leaf boat expanded. There’s an eerie feeling in the air, but there doesn’t seem to be any lightning, so we just decide to be extra alert during watch and camp under the trees.
Wulf catches a smallish groundhog and brings it back to camp. Cali climbs a tree and takes first watch. They don’t see the undead until they’re already upon the camp. They immediately shoot one of the two creatures, but Jade gets her face slashed and is paralyzed. Quell is poisoned upon waking and instinctively casts spirit guardian, and Wulf immediately goes after the undead who attacked Jade. Both undead are defeated in a short amount of time, and Wulf drags the creatures’ bodies away after Jade investigates them. She finds a nonmagical pearl bracelet and gives it to Quell. She also finds a pendant that seems to be magical. Wulf takes over watch and we rest for the night.
Wulf sees something weird move during his watch but it disappears. Then, during her watch, Quell notices something glowing in her bag. She opens it and pulls out the holy symbol from the matriarch, and finds a vague sensation of bonuses on her saves, and another sensation that the weather will only get worse. She wakes Jade up for her watch and lets her know. The feeling in the air is familiar to Cali; we are on the edge of a hurricane. It’s known as ra-a-puthi, translated to summer’s fury. Wulf has heard of them before, but with a much different word, that instead means the king of storms.
We set out quickly to find shelter, hoping that there will be a cellar of sorts in the ruins where we can hide out. On the river, we pass a red eyed deer, and Quell says “no hunting” to Wulf. We get really near to the edge of it, and Wulf spots some buildings just south of us. Cali spots some old marble steps just out of the water, and we immediately climb them, trying to get to shelter as quickly as possible. We head on toward a path to the hills, and there’s an octopus flailing away from Wulf as he climbs over some ruins. Jade accidentally clears the stairs by falling on the ruins a bit.
We continue to clamber toward the hills, and Cali sees movement. It looks like more of the same undead that attacked us before, but they vanish and don’t seem to notice us. We continue past them, and come to some water we’ll need to cross. Jade plans to dimension door with Wulf, and suggests Quell teleports across too. Wulf offers to jump across, but Jade grabs his hand first so he doesn’t. We aim for a villa about 100ft away. It is incredibly crumbled, and there’s a wave of rain. As if he’d always been there, a grey figure appears beside Cali, tipping his hat. “Children… you might make it if you run.” Wulf asks if we should be running from the storm or him. He says the storm, but some do both. He points and says we should go over the hill, “not too far or you’ll get flooded out. Don’t go through anything that looks like a doorway, there are worse things than me here.” Quell asks what we should call him, and he says the last people here called him Grey. He is paying penance for his ill deeds by living out his days warning travelers of the storm. We talk to him for a bit and he disappears into the rain again, and we head toward the hills the way he said.
We see a building that looks like it could be good shelter, and Quell sends rabbit ahead of us to check it out. It seems empty though, so we head in, avoiding the columns that are joined with an arch and could be a doorway. Jade casts prestidigitation to dry herself after Wulf shakes dry, and warms the area. Wulf goes to check out the building we’re in after he lays out Mother to dry, and Jade dries that too with prestidigitation. Jade studies the pendant she found, which turns out to be a pendant of protection against poison, and is essentially a vial. It requires attunement. Quell uses stone shape to solidify our shelter. Cali conjures some goodberries, and we hunker down for the night.
