Upon investigating the shelter we’re crouched in, Quell finds some old crumbled humanoid bones amidst the shells. Jade makes the place warm and dry with magic, and Wulf explores to make sure there’s nothing else living in the cave. He sees an iridescent centipede for a brief moment, but nothing alarming otherwise. Cali rests and offers to make a fire.
Quell spends some time examining a magical bangle she found in the shelter, which functions like a rod of absorption. Jade attunes to her pendant against poison. Wulf attunes to a ring he has as well. After a few hours, the storm calms down a bit and Quell peeks outside. It’s calm for now, but there’s still storming happening elsewhere. We decide even so to wait until morning.
The morning is dim and foggy, but no longer storming. Wulf smells like a wet dog again, and Jade uses prestidigitation again to dry him. We decide to head out and keep looking for the lighthouse. We can see it very faintly through the fog. We have two ways to get there: directly through the bay in rough waters, or a bit roundabout through the ruins and hills. We pretty unanimously decide to go through the hills. Wulf has flashbacks of his first bathtimes with Stirk.
Cali finds a barnacle covered bracelet that washes up to them from a creek they have to cross. It feels familiar but it’s hard to tell why. Cali frowns and looks at it for a long moment, then silently stashes it in their bag. WULF FINALLY GETS JADE TO RIDE ON HIS BACK TO GET OVER THE CREEK!!! As we cross the creek, the wailing of the wind sounds like a chorus of voices for a brief moment. Jade casts detect magic, and it turns out that EVERYTHING is magic. Jade is a bit overwhelmed and grabs Wulf’s arm to steady herself. There’s what seems to be necromancy magic overlaying everything in sight. Jade is excited at the prospect of more ghosts, as Cali sighs at the same.
We continue on, everyone on high alert for ghosts. Wulf and Jade lead the group, and for a brief moment, they see an image projection of a large, white marble city.
Wulf: “Ghosts… and ghost… buildings…?”
Jade finds the remnants of a mosaic tile floor that portrays a woman dancing.
Jade: “isn’t it pretty?”
Wulf: “…i guess.”
Wulf asks Quell and Cali if we saw the city too, and we say no. He tells us about it, and how we were in the middle of a busy market, but then the city and the people disappeared too. Jade tells us about how sometimes buildings can leave behind their imprint like people do with their energy, and Cali and Wulf are very confused by this. Jade starts talking about energy and how it works, and Cali’s eyes glaze over halfway through. Wulf is the meme of the lady squinting at math symbols in the air.
We eventually make our way to the lighthouse and find three ramshackle huts and some wooden structures at the base of the lighthouse. It seems like the lighthouse is being repaired, unlike everything else in the area. Quell thinks she sees movement but isn’t sure if it’s real. She sends rabbit to check the perimeter. Rabbit sees a seagull with fangs, but nothing else moving.
Cali senses undead nearby, and Jade detects magic. Quell sends rabbit to investigate the rightmost tent. It seems mostly empty but for a bedroll, some boxes, and scraps of wood. Quell goes to check it out herself. She finds a broken drawing of a face and tells Jade to come check it out. When Jade starts to make her way over, the wind starts to howl and eventually turns into screams. A large shadowy tentacled thing appears in the doorway of the lighthouse, as well as several ghosts scattered about the grounds, who are glowing. We all roll initiative.
“Wulf stabs, and Quell goes lightning!” -Alys
We fight the ghosts and shadow creature for a bit, and we find out that Jade is a monster fucker. When one of the ghosts morphs into a man screaming, the shadow thing absorbs it. Cali gets the sensation of water filling their lungs and begin to drown where they stand. They shoot magical arrows at the shadow creature and again there are screams, and the creature absorbs the other two ghosts. He smacks Cali and Jade, and Jade begins to drown from the inside out too. Jade does psychic damage to it, and it lets out a horrible screech. The shadows dissipate, and something small falls to the ground in its place. We are no longer drowning.
