Session 48: Scry City, Bitch

Wulf reaches Tirinnia in the branches and she swings at him with a weapon. We all roll initiative. Cali shoots her with an arrow and then says "you don't have to fight us. just give us what is ours and you can leave." Wulf attempts to grapple her, and Jade knocks her down another 20 feet. Wulf breaks a bunch of branches to get down to her level. He bites her and she curses him out in elven. He tells her "behave!" also in elven. He brings her down to the ground. She says she was GOING to give us the crystals back! We're all like...... lol ok. Cali says "give them back then, go ahead." She tells us to take her bag then unless we want to tell our dog to let go of her. Quell says "he is a wolf." She goes and grabs the bag and the crystals are all touching and colder than ever. Wulf asks her if it's her first time because she did not know to keep them separate.
 
She admits that someone else paid her to retrieve the crystals. Everything she'd told us about the beginning of that trap was true. But then folk from Nag paid her more than Egil or Varin. A gray skinned fellow showed up at her house and made her a decent offer to get them a shard from the lighthouse and knock out the competition while she was at it. She incapacitated the wizard--or so she thought--so he naturally freaked out, grabbed an oak box (presumably with the shard in it), grabbed a staff off the wall, broke it over his knee, and he disappeared and all she saw was flame. Her friends are ultimately dead because she was a traitor. Quell and Cali give her a hard time about it and she says "well it hardly matters now does it?!" Quell says "no but I just wanted you to feel bad about it."
 
Quell takes the 50gp Tirinnia had in her bag. We each get 10gp and she gives 10 back to her. She cannot fathom that Quell just did this. Wulf gives her 2 extra gold and says "here you can use this to find new career."
 
She says the man was gray skinned, and had some scales on his chin. Looked venom blooded. Spoke in traders cant, wore all black. No idea what ship he came in on, if he's still in town, anything. She was supposed to meet him at a drop point, and says she needs a map to show us where. Quell pulls one out and Wulf lets her go. "If you try to run, I will just catch you" he says. She rolls her eyes but does not run. She points to where a cove lies on the other side of the lighthouse. She was originally going to take backup with her, not sure how many or who will show up to collect the shard she was supposed to bring. She was supposed to meet him in two days. She leaves with her metaphorical tail tucked between her legs and we watch her leave until we're sure she's gone.
 
We find a clearing in the woods and make a new campsite there. Quell divvies the shards back up as they were before, and they are still colder than they had been to the touch, but no longer so cold we can't touch them. Cali makes a nest in a nearby tree and Jade immediately falls back asleep. Quell decides to wait until dawn to message Egil.
 
Jade has her warm cloak laid all the way over her head while she sleeps. Once it doesn't seem super early and Egil will probably be awake, Quell messages him. She tells him that Tirinnia sold him out, Naghi ppl offered 5k gold for the shard, she didn't get it, keep you posted. Egil responds right away thanking us for the information and says he's disappointed in her. Quell relays this to us and asks what we should do next.
 
Jade says the man who propositioned Tirinnia sounds like Vren, the man who came to threaten Jade and her mentor. Cali is confused about the details and Jade starts to clarify what happened. Quell is like wait he didn't ask you first?? He just went straight to threatening you??? Jade is like .....yeah? I don't know?
 
While we are discussing this, Quell hears someone approaching us. She tells us someone is coming, so Cali immediately stands and draws their bow. Jade starts grumbling under her breath about it, and the footsteps get closer and then stop. She sees someone peek around a tree and calls hello to it. It says "hello?" and sounds like a small child. In Schildling, they ask Cali to put the bow away. They put it down at least and Wulf asks why they're here. They approach the rest of the way, and it's a teenage boy named Scotty. He brought Elvar his breakfast and he told him that we all left in the middle of the night like someone was after us, so he sent him to look for us to make sure we were okay. Wulf catches him up on what happened. Cali translates the conversation while Wulf helms it since it's in Schildling and he is not well versed in traders cant.
 
Quell requests a description and through translation, she gets one. She also warns him that if he's on another plane it might not go through but that does not mean he's dead. Wulf struggles to explain planes of existence in Schildling so Cali does their best to explain it to both Scotty and Wulf. Quell sends the message, giving info and asking where he is.The message goes through, and she gets a response that says he was in the plane of shadows but seems like he's in the mountains now? He's trying to return.
Quell says he's not dead! Lots of energy, he might not be very far but we don't know yet. Scotty is excited to hear this and decides to head back toward Elvar in case he shows back up. He tells Wulf "walk under kind skies", a Schildling farewell, and leaves. Quell casts locate object before we leave the meadow to see if she can find the shard that he would have, but he is not within 1ooo feet yet.
 
We discuss where we should go next, since going to the watch house about the wizard is not necessarily a thing anymore. After a lot of back and forth, we decide to head back to town. Jade is grumpy because the air is a little crisp. We go to the inn nearest the harbor where the crew is staying to see if we can find where Setluk is, the guy we were supposed to help guide. One of the crew gives us directions on where to find him, at the Spring Rose.
 
We head there, and there's a large crowd around it. He was in the the crowd too, and upon seeing us heads straight for us. He tells us another poor fellow was murdered last night, here at the Spring Rose. The man who was killed was only three doors down (ha) from him and nobody knew much about him so there's no common denominator to figure out. The town guard are looking into it but Setluk does not believe they are any good. Quell fills him in just a bit on our situation to see if he can give us another day or so to find him before we set off, and he ends up offering to scry for us. We go back up to the room he has, and then he scries on him. Quell hands him a map at his request, and he makes a mark on the map when the spell is done. He can't say much about the location bc his spell doesn't tell him that, but he can give us the location.
 
Quell sends a message to Tam (the wizard) telling him where he is and what direction to head. She asks if we should try to meet him somewhere? He says he fought a bear and won, and wants to know where to meet. Setluk is down to come with us, and will be able to give us his location again in the morning. Quell will tell him to find somewhere safe and wait for us.
 
Jade nudges Quell and intends to ask if we should have him scry on Vren as well.
