Session 47: Hole-ception, Donut Hole if you will

We all enter the mysterious cellar. It is in ruins and we hear a low moaning further in through another hole in the floor. It's hole-ception. Many layers, like a donut hole. Quell goes to listen closer and motions for Wulf to jump into the hole. He does so, and lands into ash and bones. There's an elderly elven woman in here, terribly wounded and weak. Wulf rushes to help her, and she asks if he has a knife. She's kept herself alive with a pendant she has, but it looks like there's a chain that's gone through her body and she's started to heal around it. Quell asks what's going on and then drops down into the hole. Cali follows suit. Wulf tells the woman that he only has claws, no knife.
 
The elven woman tells Quell that a wizard bastard trapped the place, and she was the only one in her party who made it. Wulf removes the chain as gently as he's able, and Quell casts cure wounds on her. She laughs a little and says it's funny, she was supposed to be distracting us. But then that stupid wizard blew up his own traps and here she is. Cali pipes up from the darkness like sorry what? Who sent you? She says "the old man" who set these traps to catch Naghi people. There was some sort of argument and the wizard set off the traps and left. Quell asks who is paying her, and she says that it was Egil who paid her to set a trap for people coming there, specifically people from Nag. They were told to keep an eye on us, a man named Varin gave them our descriptions so that we would not get lured into the trap. Wulf offers to put her on his back and helps her back out of the hole.
 
Quell and Cali stay behind to check out the hole and look for items. We find an armful of shinies and leave the hole together. Jade has found some magical components including diamond dust, and Tirinnia (the elf we rescued) introduces herself to Jade. She makes a comment about how she was wondering what the one with the mask would look like. When we all reconvene, Quell gathers a bit more information and messages Egil. Varin is dead, she tells him, and we found Tirinnia. Egil is sad to hear about Varin and tells us to get out of there because the Orchid Woman is coming.
 
Quell asks Tirinnia if the object is here that Egil hid. She knows nothing about it and we are unable to find it, but she says that maybe the wizard took it? His name was Tim or Tam or Tom or something like that. Lady Sophie (the ruler of this city in the castle down the way) sent him, so he easily could have taken it and teleported out before the trap blew him up too. She gives us a description of him and we start making our way out of the hole.
 
When we exit, we find that Elvar (the shepherd) has lit a bonfire as the sun is setting. Wulf greets the dog, Snorey, before anyone else. Quell asks if Tirinnia may rest at the fire out here tonight. He is abhorrent to learn that there was a person down there all along. Cali says that he was right about there being no ghosts down there, though. He rushes and grabs some buns for Tirinnia, and warns us that he snores but we're welcome to sleep here.
 
We learn that Elvar did not know the wizard well, but says Lady Sophie would. He doesn't know his name, but he says to check with the watch house. They would at least have the connections to get us information most likely. Cali casts Goodberry for everyone here, and Wulf offers to catch some meat. Elvar makes a joke about how Wyvern tastes and Cali says there would be plenty... Wulf determines that it wouldn't be poisonous but he doesn't know how it would taste. But he is willing to try it! Quell says you're ALWAYS willing to try it... and Cali snickers.
 
Wulf wonders about the pelt and the teeth, and Tirinnia says it would probably be pretty valuable. Wulf is worried about whether the corpses will be gone in the morning and decides to walk the 45 minutes down to the wyverns now. Cali sighs and follows him, because last time they were walking on this path in broad daylight, they were attacked by two wyverns. Who KNOWS what else will be out here at night. They approach and harvest teeth and claws, and get scales but aren't quite able to get a whole pelt, and we start dragging what we were able to scavenge back to the campsite. Wulf carves out just enough meat to sample, even after it was sitting out all day.
 
Meanwhile, Quell identifies the magical items she found in the cellar hole and Tirinnia goes to sleep.
 
Wulf cooks some of his meat and offers it around, but nobody wants to try it. Wulf takes a bite and it's gross so he does not finish it. We begin taking watch. Around 3am on Cali's watch, the hair on the back of their neck stands up. They do a perimeter and look around but don't see anything. However, when they get back to their bedroll, their pack is a few inches to the side and the clasp is on wrong. They pull out their gem of seeing and can't see anything wrong, except that Tirinnia's bedroll is now just a pile of blankets and she is no longer here. They trip over Jade on the way to wake up Cali and everybody wakes up, so Cali tells them what's going on. They and Quell look in their bags and are both missing a shard. Wulf's pack was not touched. Quell finds a footprint and sends her a message saying "you had better get back here." she replies "you saved my life, I spared yours, fuck off." Quell successfully scries on her and jumps on Wulf's back and tells him to take off in that direction. Jade and Cali talk about how far she could've gotten, and then Jade casts dimension door and she and Cali appear 500 feet ahead.
 
They find the trail that Tirinnia followed, and a drop of blood from her. We figure out the direction she headed and Cali kicks a trail of leaves for Wulf and Quell, and then Jade does dimension door again 500 more feet ahead. Where we arrive, Jade spots a rock with inscriptions and some blood from her. We follow the trail which is much more obvious now. Jade looks at Cali and says "she thinks she lost us." Cali says "good, I like it when people underestimate us." On her scry, Quell sees her startle and curse under her breath upon hearing Jade and Cali. She then starts climbing a hemlock tree. Quell calls out ahead of her about it, but she's far enough away that we can't quite make out the words she says.
 
Jade feels the trail go cold but with a natty 1, Cali is sure it's still going. However, Jade stops to cast detect magic so Cali stops and waits with her. That's when Jade notices some glowing magical focuses in the tree above them. "She pulled a You", Jade says, nudging Cali. "She pulled a what?" "She climbed up a tree, you dumbass." Cali opens their mouth to protest but then just nods, because she's right. They split up and go to opposite ends of the tree. Cali attempts to climb it but steps on a rotted branch and falls. Just then, Wulf and Quell come barreling through and Quell casts gust of wind and knocks her down about 10 feet. Wulf scrambles up the tree while Jade uses her mage hand ability to knock her down another 10 feet or so. Just as Wulf reaches Tirinnia, we end the session.
