Kingdoms of Righteous Flame
The Kingdoms of Righteous Flame is an effective theocracy controlled by the cult of the Eternal Flame. The Kingdoms are defined by the faith of the Eternal Flame as its laws enforce the doctrines of the Radiant Lady is the only true deity, nonhuman are inferior, and the Kingdoms must protect the faithful.
The Kingdoms of Righteous Flame was created during what is called the Wars of Betrayal or the Radiant Crusade depending upon who and where one asks. During the Wars the Free States Runia and Toc’Vastil launched a campaign to expand their territory, and were acting in unison with the Kingdom of Thaxnoria’s Second War of Thaxnorian Expansion. Runia and Toc’Vastil proved more than effective in their military campaign which included the conquest of Dispaxin and Duran, although the conquest of Kansura.
Religion
The Kingdoms of Righteous Flame is dominated by religion, as could be expected from an effective theocracy. The only religion that is legally permitted to be worshipped is the Radiant Lady, but more specifically the sect worship known as the cult of the Eternal Flame; the worship of all other deities is criminalised, with fines or torture hand in hand with repentance for the normative-human deiteis (found within the Deities of the Free States table found in Religion in the Free States) while the punishments for worshiping the typically nonhuman deities, such as the Seldarine, Morndinsamman, and Draconic Pantheon are more severe with death by burning not being uncommon. Despite the illegality, there are other deities and faiths worshipped within the Kingdoms of Righteous Flame , some of these are the Seldarine is the most popular pantheon among forest gnomes and elves, and the Morndinsamman among dwarves and rock gnomes. Likewise the Draconic Pantheon are favoured among the draconic races.Racial Relations
Within the Kingdoms of Righteous Flame relations are poor to say the least as the union is human first political union with all other races suffering from violence, inequality, and being legally second class citizens. The Elder Races within the Kingdoms are oppressed, abused, and conquered. Discrimination against nonhumans is entrenched in the legal system of the Kingdoms, as they are official second class citizens, who are restricted in terms of employment, ownership, and even where they are permitted to live. Additionally, nonhumans have fewer and worse legal recourses when a crime is committed against them by a Human. The majority nonhuman provinces also face much greater taxes and restrictions against them.Views on Magic
The Kingdoms of Righteous Flame have amongst the worst outlooks upon magic and mages of Human kingdoms. The Kingdom proclaims that magic is the most dangerous force in all of Runetalras, and has led to the greatest catastrophe in all of history, the Age of Blood. Magic is outlawed within the Kingdoms, all who are capable of casting it save for the priests of the Radiant Lady are condemned to the Arcane Bastilles.Politics
The Kingdoms of Righteous Flame are strictly speaking a union between the Monarchy of Runia and the theocracy of Toc’Vastil, however the true power lays the priest of the Cult of Eternal Flame who effectively rule the Kingdoms with the support of the faithful, witch hunters, and the Smouldering Swords.International Relations
Within the Free States the Kingdoms of Righteous Flame are pariahs because of their unprovoked conquest of Dispaxin and Duran, and their economic war against Kansura; as a direct result of this the Kingdoms of Righteous Flame and The Northern Defensive Union are on the verge of war. The Kingdoms of Righteous Flame maintain broadly positive relations with the Kingdom of Thaxnoria, a result of their cooperation during the Second War of Thaxnorian Expansion and the Radiant Crusade.Education
Like most Human kingdoms the peoples of the Kingdoms of Righteous Flame are not entitled to any form of education. Children thus receive their necessary education from family, friends, townsfolk, or employers. There are exceptions to their rule, the nobles and wealthy are able to afford tutors or to send their children to private schools or academies. Another option is the Church of the Radiant Flame , when children are given to the Church they are instructed in a wide variety of subjects ranging from history, to religion, to the natural world.
