What to Do/Where to Go Next

  • Confront the Changeling (Berrian/Val): The changeling who Conor and Herb first encountered as Berrian Venhorn (the owner of Goat Lips in Neverwinter) is currently posing as Val Thollo, the lawmaster of Neverwinter. The PCs interacted with "Val" in Leilon on 5 Mirtul, then Herb’s scrying spell helped them figure out who Val really was. Val was in Leilon to learn about the Cult of Talos threat and report back to Lord Neverember in Neverwinter.
  • Find (and Help?) Jory/Bory and/or Reidoth: According to the gnomes of Gnomengarde, Jory and Bory (the goliaths who Conor and Herb were aligned with early in the campaign) tried to escape from a group of fire giants and goliaths through the Gnomengarde waterfall into the Feywild. Reidoth was captured by the giants and goliaths, but Jory and Bory made it safely through the portal. The PCs may want to try finding Jory and Bory in the Feywild or freeing Reidoth from the giants and goliaths. The PCs have reason to believe the giants and goliaths who were pursuing Jory, Bory and Reidoth are based at Mount Hotenow (see “Investigate the Fire Giants and Goliaths”).
  • Find Kundras of the Cult of Talos: After the Cult of Talos failed in their mission to steal the Ruinstone during the Battle of Leilon on 23 Mirtul, Kundras Stormsworn was their only leader to escape. Dagult Neverember, Lord Protector of Neverwinter, offered to pay the PCs 10,000 GP each if they bring back Kundras dead or alive. The PCs previously encountered Kundras on 11 Mirtul at the mountain temple when they rescued Rayphlárd and Tubby and welcomed Smōk back to the group. Kundras, the half-orc leader of that group of cultists, teleported away during the fight. Smōk later remembered that he was captured and brainwashed by the cultists at the Circle of Thunder in the Neverwinter Wood.
  • Find Taris Greenshadow: Taris Greenshadow and the dracolich Ebondeath failed in their attempt to steal the Ruinstone during the Battle of Leilon on 23 Mirtul. Ebondeath's dracolich form (the body of Phaetonos) was killed by the PCs, but the spirit of Ebondeath flew away; Taris escaped by using the plane shift spell. Dagult Neverember, Lord Protector of Neverwinter, offered to pay the PCs 10,000 GP each if they bring back Taris dead or alive. The PCs previously encountered Taris on 13 Mirtul at Icespire Peak when she failed to transform Cryovain's body into a new dracolich form for Ebondeath. The PCs suspect that Taris may be in the Shadowfell, as they've witnessed her casting the plane shift spell twice and she has been seen with Shadar-kai allies during the encounters at Icespire Peak and Leilon. They’ve also discovered connections between the Red Wizards of Thay, Taris, and the vampire Raphaella; Raphaella owns the Umber Hulk's Shell Inn in Leilon.
  • Find Ularan Mortus of the Red Wizards of Thay: Ularan Mortus and the undead forces of the Red Wizards of Thay failed in their attempt to steal the Ruinstone during the Battle of Leilon on 23 Mirtul. Dagult Neverember, Lord Protector of Neverwinter, offered to pay the PCs 10,000 GP each if they bring back Ularan dead or alive. The PCs have had multiple encounters with necromancers and undead monsters in the areas around Axeholm, Dumathoin's Gulch, Leilon, Old Owl Well and the Wayside Inn. They’ve also discovered connections between the Red Wizards, Taris Greenshadow, and the vampire Raphaella; Raphaella owns the Umber Hulk's Shell Inn in Leilon.
  • Help Cryovain’s Mate in Svardborg: The white dragon Cryovain’s soul spoke with Shinzon on 13 Mirtul and asked him to travel to Svardborg and help his mate Isendraug escape. Isendraug and their eggs are being held captive by frost giants (Harshnag’s former clan). Cryovain told Shinzon that if they’re able to free Isendraug, Isendraug will lead them to their true lair and they will be greatly rewarded.
  • Help Quinner Escape From Jail in Neverwinter: Quinner Knox, a former employee at Goat Lips in Neverwinter, helped Conor and Herb survive their fight against the tavern owner Berrian Venhorn on 14 Tarsakh. The PCs later learned that Berrian was actually a changeling who was posing as Val Thollo, the lawmaster of Neverwinter (see “Confront the Changeling”). On 17 Mirtul, the PCs learned through Quinner’s sister Freda Knox that Quinner - who had traveled back to Phandalin just days earlier - was tracked down and arrested by guards working for Val Thollo. He was then taken back to Neverwinter and thrown in jail.
  • Help the Elves at Mount Hotenow: On 29 Tarsakh, the PCs found a sending stone in Wave Echo Cave. Since that time, Herb Stoner has used the sending stone several times to communicate with someone on the other end. The individual on the other end said they’re with a group of elves who were trapped by giants and goliaths at Mount Hotenow. They have asked for help multiple times, specifically asking the PCs to go to Thundertree and kill the dragon Venomfang, then meet their friends under the dragon’s tower, who will lead them to Mount Hotenow to save them. They said they have hidden treasures and will pay the PCs if they rescue them.
  • Investigate the Fire Giants and Goliaths at Mount Hotenow: The PCs (and others) have encountered goliaths and ogres who were using rods of adamantine detection to try to find buried fragments of adamantine. One of the groups of goliaths was captured and brought back to Phandalin, but the PCs later learned that fire giants and goliaths attacked Tresendar Family on 18 Mirtul and freed the captives. Uldinath, a dragonborn artificer in Triboar and an expert on the Thousand Year War, suspects that the goliaths and fire giants may be trying to rebuild the ancient dragon-killing colossus known as the Vonindod. Then on 22 Mirtul, a group of giants led an attack on Triboar that was ultimately unsuccessful; they uncovered a large slab of adamantine under Boar's Rest, but they were defeated by the PCs and the town's defenders. Based on what the PCs have learned so far, they have reason to believe the goliaths they’ve encountered are based at Mount Hotenow (they witnessed the area having tremors the last time they were near Neverwinter on 15 Tarsakh), and they also have reason to believe the goliaths are a part of the Undammuth Tribe (Jory's family).
  • Investigate What's Happening at the Tower of Storms: Rayphlárd received a message from his great aunt Thinshu on 12 Mirtul that both kobold cave entrances near the Tower of Storms were blocked, and that they couldn’t travel there using their teleportation circle in the House of Razaycrynth. She said she wasn’t sure it was safe at the Tower of Storms anymore.
  • Investigate What’s Happening With Brophilius in Longwood: Brophilius, the horned devil that was summoned to the Material Plane when Mosk pulled a card from the Deck of Many Things, later pulled a card from the deck himself on 1 Mirtul, which made him the "King of Longwood" (Herb’s hometown). Brophilius flew away, looking for Longwood. The last time the PCs saw him, on 3 Mirtul, Brophilius was flying north near the Brontide Cliffs. Also, on 18 Mirtul, the devil Adonides spoke to Conor through the Wulfrun Longsword, urging Conor to kill Brophilius and send him back to Cania, "where he belongs."
  • Investigate What’s Happening With Edmond Wulfrun in Port Llast: While Brophilius was contemplating his future as the "King of Longwood" (see "Investigate What’s Happening With Brophilius in Longwood"), his two imp servants pulled the last two cards out of the Deck of Many Things. They turned into humans, one wearing regal attire and one an armored guard. The regal one said "Time to go back to Port Llast," then they both disappeared. Later, Conor learned from the devil Adonides that one of the imps was Edmond Wulfrun, the revived former Lord of Port Llast (Conor’s hometown). Conor’s sister Aislinn - who is now close to Frederich Wulfrun - also has reason to believe that Edmond has been revived.
  • Return to Gnomengarde: Rayphlárd left some miscellaneous items in Gnomengarde and asked Fibblestib and Dabbledob to try crafting him something new out of them. Also, Herb may be interested in returning the oaken bolter to the gnomes for repairs, but the PCs left the oaken bolter at the Talassan Mountain Temple. Finally, when Herb scryed on Irae of the Grim Accord, he saw her traveling with five other individuals on the Triboar Trail and overheard her talking about going to Gnomengarde; the PCs suspect that the Grim Accord are also competing for the prize in Gwaeron Windstrom's contest.
  • Visit the House of the All-Seeing Orb: Smōk found a small, weightless stone block at the Talassan Mountain Temple on 11 Mirtul. He later felt compelled to ask questions to the block, and it answered any yes or no question. When trying to ask it another question on 12 Mirtul, the block seemingly glitched, then said "Visit the Shrine of Savras in Conyberry for more answers," before disappearing. The PCs explored the Shrine of Savras on 20 Mirtul, eventually talking with a projected image of the ancient green dragon Claugiyliamatar. The dragon asked the PCs to go through the teleportation circle in the temple, which is connected to the House of the All-Seeing Orb, and retrieve the Scepter of Savras for her.

Campaign Recap

(Incomplete... obviously...)

14 Tarsakh (Neverwinter)

  • Jory Undammuth, a goliath guard at a tavern in Neverwinter called Goat Lips, started a fight against the rest of the staff. Human gladiator Conor and gnome wizard Herb, regulars at the tavern, were caught in the fight. Conor tried to join Jory in fighting the staff, but his handaxe thrown across the room killed a customer instead.
  • Conor, Herb and Jory went into the back hallway of the tavern and fought the half-elf owner, Berrian Venhorn. Quinner Knox, Jory's human friend and fellow guard, joined them against their employer. Berrian escaped. Quinner led Conor, Herb and Jory to his room at the Firestorm Inn to flee the crime scene.

15 Tarsakh (Neverwinter-High Road)

  • Quinner arranged a meeting between Conor, Herb and Jory and his dwarf friend Gundren Rockseeker at a tavern called the Exclusive Hag. Gundren hired the group to escort his supplies from Neverwinter to Phandalin while he traveled separately ahead of them with a human Lords' Alliance agent named Sildar Hallwinter. At the tavern, the group also met a dwarf named Dadduth Snowjaw. Dadduth said he also worked for Berrian at Goat Lips, that he heard what happened, and that he wanted to help them.
  • Conor, Herb and Jory avoided being seen by the Neverwinter Town Guard by going through the historical landmark the Fallen Tower. While in the Fallen Tower, Conor improvised the name "Three Blind Mice" for the group when asked by the bartender Vagdru. The group then went through the city's northeast gate with Dadduth's help; Dadduth used his connections with the guards at the gate to help them leave safely.
  • After exiting the city gates, Conor, Herb and Jory first visited Jory's hut so he could get some personal belongings, then they traveled to the spot Gundren described to them. They found Gundren's wagon and started traveling south on the High Road.

16 Tarsakh (High Road-Cragmaw Hideout-Phandalin)

  • After traveling south on the High Road and turning east on the Triboar Trail, the Three Blind Mice spotted dead horses ahead of them on the trail. When approaching the site, they were ambushed by goblins from the Cragmaw Tribe. The adventurers survived the fight, killing all four goblins. After the fight, they recognized the saddle on one of the horses as one belonging to Gundren Rockseeker. While the group started a short rest, Bory Undammuth - the older brother of Jory Undammuth - appeared out of the woods and joined the group.
  • The Three Blind Mice and Bory followed the goblins' tracks north into the Neverwinter Wood and arrived at the Cragmaw Hideout. The group entered the cave, fighting the goblins and their bugbear leader Klarg. Klarg and all but one of the goblins (Yeemik) died, and the adventurers rescued Sildar Hallwinter, who had been captured by the goblins. They left Yeemik tied up, and Sildar explained that the tribe took Gundren to some other location known as Cragmaw Castle.
  • After exiting the cave, Bory convinced his brother Jory to join him in returning to Mount Hotenow. The rest of the group, including Sildar, continued traveling toward Phandalin with Gundren's wagon. Sildar informed the others that in addition to helping Gundren, he was on his way to Phandalin to find a missing Lords' Alliance agent named Iarno Albrek and learn more about a group of troublemakers known as the "Redbrand Ruffians."
  • Conor McGregor, Herb Stoner and Sildar arrived in Phandalin in the evening. They first visited Barthen's Provisions and delivered the wagon, as they were instructed to do by Gundren. They then visited Stonehill Inn, where they stayed for the night. Before going up to their rooms, they stayed in the tavern and chatted with several customers and the server Alsa. Alsa gave them several leads on people to talk to who might be able to help them tomorrow.

17 Tarsakh (Phandalin)

  • Conor, Herb and Sildar started their day in Phandalin by visiting the Townmaster's Hall. They spoke with the human townmaster Harbin Wester and asked him about the Redbrand Ruffians, but Harbin downplayed their impact on the town.
  • The group then visited the Lionshield Coster: Phandalin and spoke with the human shopkeeper Linene Graywind. Linene told the group about a shipment she was expecting to receive, and the group said they saw similar items the previous day when they were at the Cragmaw Hideout.
  • Conor, Herb and Sildar then visited the Sleeping Giant, a tavern known to be a hangout for the Redbrand Ruffians. Before entering, they met blue dragonborn Rayphlárd and half-elf Gwenlinn. Both Rayphlard and Gwenlinn were also there to confront the Redbrands. The group of five entered, and Sildar announced his presence as a representative from the Lords' Alliance. Seth Redbrand and other members of the Redbrands stood up and started a fight, but the Redbrands were killed and the dwarf bartender Grista escaped.
  • After the group exited the tavern, a half-elf boy Carp Alderleaf called out and invited them to Alderleaf Farm. They talked with Carp's mother Qelline Alderleaf, and Qelline allowed them to rest in the farmhouse. Carp then told the group about a hidden trail in the woods behind their farm that led to the Redbrand Hideout under Tresendar Manor.
  • After a short rest at the Alderleaf Farm, the group (including new allies Rayphlard and Gwenlinn) visited elf Daran Edermath at the Edermath Orchard. Daran told them what he knew about the Redbrands, that their leader is someone named "Glasstaff;" he also told them that the Redbrands seemed to hassle everyone in town except Halia Thornton, the human guildmaster of the Phandalin Miners' Exchange. Daran also told the group about stories he heard from miners coming back from the area around Old Owl Well about wandering zombies.
  • The group then visited the Shrine of Luck and met the temple's elf caretaker Sister Garaele. After learning that the group were adventurers, Garaele asked them for help getting information from Agatha, a banshee based near the ruins of Conyberry. She offered potions of healing as payment.
  • For their last stop of the day, the group visited the miner's exchange and spoke with the guildmaster Halia Thornton. Halia spoke privately with the group and told them what she knew about the Redbrands, including rumors she heard about their underground hideout having secret doors. She offered to pay the group to kill their leader Glasstaff and bring back any written correspondence they find while they're there. The group then went to Gwenlinn's House to rest for the night.
