During his time being held captive as a wyrmling in the Sunless Citadel, Venomfang used a ring that allowed him to turn invisible and change his form.

Personal history
In 1451, a group of mercenaries was hired by Kairos to infiltrate the Sunless Citadel under the village of Thundertree and kill Belak, the druid who was in charge of the complex at the time. The mercenaries included Amethyst Mountainbender, Azrael, Knismizo and Thimble.
While exploring the underground complex, the mercenaries met a faerie dragon named Ticklecorn; the faerie dragon was actually Venomfang in disguise. Ticklecorn showed the group his magic ring - turning invisible and then visible again - and he told them he would give them the ring if they freed him from his cell. The mercenaries agreed, and Ticklecorn joined them on the rest of their mission, spending most of his time invisible and resting on Thimble's shoulder.
As the group prepared to enter Belak's living quarters, Ticklecorn - still invisible - left Thimble's shoulder and flew away. After investigating Belak's room, the group discovered a hidden area under a bed appearing to be a nest, and nearby the following words were carved into a wooden bedpost: Venomfang, aka "Young Gnawbone" (indicating that Venomfang may be related to Claugiyliamatar, the notorious ancient green dragon who rules the Kryptgarden Forest and is frequently known as "Old Gnawbone.")
Later, when the group was meeting Belak for the first time near the Gulthias Tree, Ticklecorn reappeared. He then changed to his true form as a green dragon wyrmling, and he flew up and out of the underground complex.
