Old Owl Well

Old Owl Well is a landmark in the Sword Mountains and north of the valley near Wyvern Tor in the Sword Coast. The site is occupied by Hamun Kost of the Red Wizards of Thay.

On Day 7 of the campaign (20 Tarsakh), Conor McGregor, Herb Stoner and Rayphlárd visited Old Owl Well; they were given a tip by Daran Edermath in Phandalin two days earlier that prospectors told stories about being chased away by undead creatures near the well. After they arrived, they approached the tent near the well, and they were briefly attacked by zombies before Hamun Kost called them off. The party recognized Hamun as a Red Wizard due to his appearance, and they asked him what he was doing. After some tense back-and-forth, Hamun agreed to tell them about what he was doing if they agreed to help him, either by asking Agatha a question for him or driving the orcs from the Many Arrows Tribe away from the area. The group left the Old Owl Well, not intending to return.

Architecture

Old Owl Well is mostly in ruins now, but a courtyard remains. The well that gave this location its name is located within the courtyard, and it still provides clear, fresh water.

History

Old Owl Well is known to have previously been the home of a powerful wizard. The wizard lived in a watchtower, but now the watchtower is in ruins.
