After the meeting, Amethyst Mountainbender approached the group, offering to tell them more about the cult. Taliah's Warning About Taris' Potential Ally

On Day 24 (6 Mirtul), Shinzon Greenshadow received a message of warning from his mother Taliah Greenshadow while traveling on the High Road. In the message, Taliah told Shinzon that Raphaella Umber, a female vampire and influential figure in Leilon, may be aligned with Taris. Taliah also told Shinzon that Claugiyliamatar was not able to scry on Raphaella and Taris, that something blocked them.

Amethyst Learns About Taris' Plans

On Day 25 (7 Mirtul), Amethyst Mountainbender was back in Leilon, and she snuck into the office of Raphaella Umber at the Umber Hulk's Shell Inn. While hiding in an extradimensional space created by her rope trick spell, Amethyst overheard Raphaella telling her bartender Alion Malwyn that:

Amethyst started traveling to Phandalin the following day, hoping to cross paths with Collateral Damage again. She eventually did on the morning of 10 Mirtul, and together they began their trek into the Sword Mountains. Collateral Damage's first priority was killing the white dragon Cryovain to help the citizens of Phandalin, while Amethyst was focused solely on confronting Taris about her role in the events of the Sunless Citadel.

Personal history

Taris' Early Years

Taris Greenshadow was born in 899 in Treaath, a wood elf village in the Kryptgarden Forest. She was the daughter of Hiyashi Stoneriver and Tani Greenshadow and the younger sister of Taliah Greenshadow.

Taris' father Hiyashi was the first grandmaster of the Temple of Mori, a monastery that he helped open in Treaath in 816. During Taris' childhood, the focus of the monastery shifted, as Hiyashi's lifelong fascination with dragons resulted in him forming a group of monks within the temple in 910 who studied dragons and called themselves the Ryu Mori Clan.

Six years later in 916, the Ryu Mori Clan became more interested in Sammaster's teachings and the Cult of the Dragon. Hiyashi, Tani and the rest of the clan decided to join Sammaster in his travels to Cormanthyr. The travelers were ambushed by a group of Harpers, including an avatar of Lathander, resulting in the deaths of Hiyashi and Sammaster, among many others.

Taris' mother Tani survived the ambush, but her whereabouts were unknown until she returned to Treaath six years later in 922. Tani returned badly injured with a broken leg, and she spent much of her final years with her daughter Taris before dying in 1183.

Claugiyliamatar Arrives, Taris Escapes

In 1303, a female green dragon named Claugiyliamatar arrived in the Kryptgarden Forest. She immediately asserted her dominance over the entire forest, with the village of Treaath becoming her new base of operations.

Ruvyn Wyngella and the monks of the Temple of Mori attempted to resist Claugiyliamatar, but the dragon started killing them one-by-one. Ruvyn's son, Jonik Wyngella, pleaded with Claugiyliamatar to stop the killing and agreed to serve her, so the dragon named Jonik the new grandmaster of the temple and leader of her new cult. During the chaos, Taris escaped and fled to an unknown location.

Taris and the Sunless Citadel

In 1451, Taris hired mercenaries from Neverwinter to complete a job in Thundertree. Kairos, an individual who worked for the mercenary guild, gathered Amethyst Mountainbender, Azrael, Knismizo and Thimble to complete the job.

Taris hired the group to invade an underground location in Thundertree known as the Sunless Citadel, kill a former member of the Cult of the Dragon-Claugiyliamatar Sect named Belak, and retrieve a dragon egg that Belak had stolen from Claugiyliamatar. The mercenaries succeeded in killing Belak, but they discovered the dragon egg had already hatched. The dragon wyrmling, whom Belak had named Venomfang, escaped during the fight.

Having failed in part of their mission, the mercenaries then followed Kairos through the roots of the Gulthias Tree all the way to the ancient dwarven city of Gauntlgrym, only to witness a Talassan cultist named Izoneus Stormsworn cause the mountain above - Mount Hotenow - to erupt and destroy much of the Neverwinter Region.

Education

In her early years, Taris and her older sister Taliah were trained to be druids by their mother Tani Greenshadow. Taris found the training to be boring and often mocked Taliah for taking it seriously.

In 916, Taris' father Hiyashi Stoneriver died and her mother went missing while they traveled with Sammaster and the Cult of the Dragon. Taris then focused on training as a monk at the Temple of Mori, following the Way of the Cobalt Soul.

When Taris' mother Tani returned to Treaath in 922, the two stayed together most days. Over the years, others in the village noticed Taris taking on many of her mother's extreme viewpoints, including talking more about the Cult of the Dragon and Sammaster's prophecies of a future ruled by "dead dragons."
