Treaath

Treaath is a mostly-abandoned village in the Kryptgarden Forest now controlled by the ancient green dragon Claugiyliamatar.

History

The Temple of Mori and the Ryu Mori Clan

In 316, a group of 12 wood elf druids established a village in the Kryptgarden Forest named Treaath, which translated to "Grove of Peace."

In 816, to celebrate the village's 500th anniversary, Hiyashi Stoneriver and other elders in the village opened a monastery they named the Temple of Mori. Hiyashi served as the first grandmaster of the monastery, and the monastery gained a reputation as a healing place for various magical creatures in the Kryptgarden Forest. The monks of the Temple of Mori served as protectors of the village along with various rangers and druids.

In 910, Hiyashi acted on a lifelong fascination with dragons and formed a group of monks within the temple focused on the study of dragons. He named this group the Ryu Mori Clan, and the monks in the clan trained to be elite fighters and follow what Hiyashi called the "Way of the Ascendant Dragon." Hiyashi was aware of Sammaster and the growing influence of the Cult of the Dragon, but his Ryu Mori Clan did not originally focus on dracoliches like Sammaster's cult.

Hiyashi, Tani and the Cult of the Dragon

After a several years of studying dragons, Hiyashi Stoneriver, his wife Tani Greenshadow and the Ryu Mori Clan became more interested in Sammaster's teachings and the Cult of the Dragon.

In 916, the Ryu Mori Clan decided to join Sammaster and more than 60 cultists in their travels to Cormanthyr. The cultists were ambushed by a group of Harpers, including an avatar of Lathander, and Hiyashi and Sammaster were among the many who died. Ruvyn Wyngella took over as grandmaster of the Temple of Mori after the death of Hiyashi, and the Ryu Mori Clan was no longer officially a part of the monastery.

Tani survived the ambush, but her whereabouts were unknown until she returned to Treaath in 922 with a badly broken leg. She spent much of her final years with her younger daughter Taris Greenshadow. Tani died in 1183.

Claugiyliamatar Takes Over

In 1303, a female green dragon named Claugiyliamatar - also commonly known by her nickname "Old Gnawbone" - arrived in the Kryptgarden Forest. She immediately asserted her dominance over the entire forest, with the village of Treaath becoming her new base of operations.

Ruvyn Wyngella and the monks of the Temple of Mori attempted to resist Claugiyliamatar, but the dragon started killing them one-by-one. After Ruvyn's death, his son Jonik Wyngella surrendered and pleaded with Claugiyliamatar to stop the killing; the dragon named Jonik the new grandmaster of the temple. During the chaos, Taris Greenshadow escaped and fled to an unknown location.

Although Claugiyliamatar did not indicate to anyone a desire to become a dracolich, the villagers of Treaath who were forced into serving her were frequently referred to as her "cultists" (similar to the Cult of the Dragon).

Claugiyliamatar Creates the Green Claw

In 1340, Taliah Greenshadow (Taris Greenshadow's older sister) went into deep mourning after the death of her husband Sirol Wingedhorse. Taliah spent all of her time in the Temple of Mori, eventually studying the temple's healing arts and - using what she learned from her mother Tani Greenshadow - becoming a skilled druid.

Claugiyliamatar rewarded Taliah and several other druids and elite warriors, teaching them what she called the "Way of the Sun Soul" and naming them the "Green Claw." The Green Claw began acting as Claugiyliamatar's group of elite guardians, led by Jonik Wyngella who earned the new title "Praetor."

Belak Steals Claugiyliamatar's Egg

In 1450, a druid of the Green Claw named Belak stole Claugiyliamatar's egg and fled north with an unknown ally. Claugiyliamatar sent cultists in all directions to find them, but none of them could.

Later it was revealed that Belak fled to Thundertree and met the former members of the Cult of Talos in the Sunless Citadel. For a short time, Belak led the former Talassans in their new worship of the Gulthias Tree. For more details, visit the Sunless Citadel page.

Claugiyliamatar and Helios (and Phaetonos)

In 1451, after the eruption of Mount Hotenow, a red dragon named Helios relocated to a new lair in the Sword Mountains. Claugiyliamatar and Helios clashed, but Claugiyliamatar eventually convinced the red dragon to form a mutual protection alliance, allowing each to rule their own domain (Helios in the Sword Mountains and Claugiyliamatar in the Kryptgarden Forest) and not interfere with each other.

In 1462, Helios disappeared from the Sword Mountains, and his son Phaetonos took over his father's spot as the most powerful dragon of the mountain range. Claugiyliamatar quickly convinced Phaetonos to return to Mount Hotenow with his followers, and she offered her servant Liha Greenshadow (Taliah Greenshadow's daughter) to marry the leader of Phaetonos' followers, a half-elf named Korath Gariat.

The Great Exile

In 1472, Claugiyliamatar discovered that one of her followers was stealing from her horde, but she couldn't identify the traitor. Claugiyliamatar threatened to kill the entire village, but Taliah Greenshadow calmed her down and convinced her to banish them instead.

Claugiyliamatar agreed, banishing the entire village of nearly 1,000 followers, leaving only Taliah, three other druids, and the Green Claw with her in Treaath. The event came to be known as the "Great Exile."
