Shinzon Greenshadow

Shinzon Greenshadow (a.k.a. Calves Off)

Shinzon Greenshadow is a male elf and one of the members of Collateral Damage. He's an arcane trickster rogue and a monk of the "Way of the Ascendant Dragon."

Shinzon entered the campaign on Day 8 (21 Tarsakh) while he was tracking a small group of orcs from the Many Arrows Tribe through the Sword Mountains. He was planning an attack against the orcs as they returned to Wyvern Tor. Shinzon fired his shortbow first, then Conor McGregor, Herb Stoner and Rayphlárd appeared and joined the fight against the orcs.

Shinzon fell unconscious in the battle, but he was saved by Conor stabilizing him using a healer's kit. Herb then successfully cast charm person on Gog and one of the remaining orcs, and Collateral Damage won the fight. Shinzon joined group of adventurers after the fight.

Shinzon's Link to Treaath's History

Shinzon Greenshadow was born in 1292 in Treaath, a village of wood elves in the Kryptgarden Forest. Shinzon's family was directly linked to the history of Treaath.

Shinzon's grandfather Hiyashi Stoneriver was the first grandmaster of the Temple of Mori, a monastery that helped the village gain a reputation as a healing place for various magical creatures in the Kryptgarden Forest. In his later years, Hiyashi and a group of monks within the temple called themselves the Ryu Mori Clan and later followed the teachings of the Cult of the Dragon. In 916, Hiyashi and many others in the Ryu Mori Clan died in an ambush while traveling with the cult.

"Old Gnawbone" Arrives

When Shinzon was born, the Cult of the Dragon didn't have a direct influence on the leaders of Treaath, but that changed in 1303 with the arrival of an ancient green dragon. Claugiyliamatar, who was commonly known as "Old Gnawbone," immediately took control of the village and killed the residents who tried to resist.

The survivors were left with no other option than serving the dragon, but others like Shinzon's aunt Taris Greenshadow were able to escape. Claugiyliamatar didn't indicate to anyone a desire to become a dracolich (like the first dragons worshiped by the Cult of the Dragon), but the villagers serving her were still known as her "cultists."

The Great Exile

As a child, Shinzon studied martial arts at the Temple of Mori and trained to be a guardian for the village. In 1472, Shinzon discovered that a leader within his faction in the monastery, Favric, was stealing from Claugiyliamatar's horde. Shinzon decided to reveal Favric's actions to others, but the others took Favric's side and Shinzon was banished.

Soon after that, Claugiyliamatar herself discovered someone had been stealing from her, but she didn't know their identity. She threatened to kill the entire village, but one of her closest druid advisors Taliah Greenshadow (Shinzon's mother), convinced the dragon to instead banish them. Claugiyliamatar then forced the village of nearly 1,000 elves to leave, leaving only Taliah, three other druids, and her elite warriors known as the Green Claw. The event came to be known as the "Great Exile."

New Treaath

After the Great Exile in 1472, Shinzon was contacted by his mother Taliah Greenshadow. She asked Shinzon to assist a group of older villagers and help them establish a new home in the nearby Sword Mountains.

Shinzon helped the group find a safe location high in the mountains, and they named it New Treaath. He helped the village leaders build homes, farms and defenses, and he also helped them establish a chain of command in which elders led the younger residents.

Shinzon lived in New Treaath for 12 years. Many of the residents were fascinated by history, including their Cult of the Dragon ancestors who believed that the world will one day be ruled by dead dragons. Shinzon later discovered that a smaller group within the village sought to act on these beliefs and were beginning to coordinate with cultists from different locations.

Wandering Years

With the growing presence of the Cult of the Dragon in New Treaath, Shinzon and several like-minded friends decided to move away in 1484 and travel the world. For the next several years, he and the group traveled east toward Triboar and then Yartar. During this time, Shinzon took odd jobs working as a mercenary, and he became close with a healer in the group who was an old friend of his mother Taliah Greenshadow. The healer taught Shinzon about using herbs and poisons.

One day in Triboar, Shinzon happened to run into his old friend Viroy. From that point on, Shinzon mostly traveled with Viroy, who taught Shinzon thieves' cant and how to make a living from occasional theft from wealthy snobs and evildoers.

After spending several years with Viroy, Shinzon joined him on a journey back to the Sword Mountains. That journey came to an abrupt end when the two walked into an attack by a group of orcs from the Many Arrows Tribe. Viroy died in the attack, but Shinzon was able to escape with his life. Shinzon then started tracking the orcs, who he learned were led by a half-orc named Brughor Axe-Biter. While tracking the orcs and starting his own attack to avenge Viroy's death, Shinzon was surprisingly helped by members of Collateral Damage.
