WorldEmber 2023
WorldEmber is coming... again
I, Emy, pledge to write ten thousand new words of worldbuilding this December for WorldEmber.WorldEmber is back again, my favourite time of the year! This year, I'm doing things a little differently. I am currently working on a Stubocalypse of Etrea. This means I am working through all (over one thousand) stubs, writing between one and two hundred words for each, tagging them, giving them a placeholder header, and publishing them so there will eventually be no dead links. All being told, I should be writing between fifty and a hundred enhanced stubs for WorldEmber to meet the wordcount goal. (Don't worry, I won't be notifying them!)
Community Engagement
Community engagement has always been a huge part of WorldAnvil for me. I love reading others' work and commenting on it, spreading the love and joy of worldbuilding around. This year, Annie Stein has created the Comment Carolers, and I definitely won't be missing out on all that cheer-spreading. For WorldEmber I'd like to commit to reading at least ten articles a day and leaving some love on them. I don't think that will be nearly enough to keep up with my notifications (RIP my inbox), so I want at least five of those articles to be from the worlds of people I don't already follow. I would love to keep up with my notifications also, but that is the path to burn-out. I'll see what I can do though. :)Homework Week One: Focus
I am currently going down my categories in order and filling in all the stubs. As of writing this article, I have just finished stamping on all the stubs I had for human ethnicities and I am about to work on merfolk. As far as WorldEmber goes, I expect most (if not all) of my words will be going into the Atlas category. This is the countries, settlements, and landmarks of Etrea, so it's a bit of a chonky one. If I get through the Atlas, I get to start on my Geography category, which is geographical features and natural landmarks, so that will also be fun. I also want to do a coupl of prompt list articles, to give me a bit of a break from the stubs: my goals are 'birds' and 'mushrooms'.Homework Week Two: Mini Meta
It's a little bit difficult to write a mini meta for my focus, considering it's basically working on all stubs from everywhere, but I guess I can write a bit more about the atlas category. ScopeThe 'atlas' category focuses on countries, settlements, buildings, and landmarks made by people. This includes ruins. All natural landmarks and places are focused on in the 'geography' category. Theme and Mood
I would really love to finish the 'atlas' category for WorldEmber. Inspirations
Here are some worlds that really inspire me to continue to write in Etrea and to give everything my best. It was really difficult to narrow these down, as I genuinely find inspiration and motivation in every world I read.
Week Three:
One of my goals for 2023 was to renovate my homepage, but I hadn't got around to it yet. So this week's homework is perfect for me. I've added a bunch more images to the homepage, and also some featured articles. I figure I can switch them up every so often to keep things fresh.Week Four Homework: Preparation
My little desk is as clear as it's going to be and ready to go. I like that my set up is right next to one of the aquariums so I get to gaze at fish whilst I'm thinking. I also have some loop earplugs to help me concentrate when other things are going on around me.
I will probably buy some sweets. Also I have a bunch of nice teas to work my way through this December.
Writing time is always the hardest for me. I have plenty of time, it's just a lot of it is spent not concentrating. Usually I alternate writing with reading/gaming/crafting, so I just have to weight more time towards the writing.
I have so much support in this community, much more than I ever thought I would have, and honestly that keeps me going. Also I am pretty sure I can rely on my wife to poke me into writing, and the cats and guinea pigs to be furry distractions.
