The Esclites

The Esclites are the main human ethnicity of Escilar, a cold northern country on the continent of Aenica. They are spread out all over the country, making their homes in both the thick boreal forests and polar tundra that make up the land.
They build their homes out of wood and hide, and at the centre of each settlement is a large communal hall for eating, socialising, and other important social events. This hall also contains an altar to the god of the sky, their main deity.
The Esclites are ruled by a karr, who has the final say on how the country is run. He is supported by jerls, who hold power over different parts of the country but defer to the karr on important matters. When the karr dies, a tournament is held to decide the next karr, with feats of strength, wrestling, logic puzzles, and hunting just some of the tests candidates must endure. Any Escilite man can participate in the tournament as long as he can pay the fee of entry.
