Lys's Canal, located in the country of Lisil, extends for over a hundred miles, connecting two oceans. It is a highly desirable shipping route between the Gulf of Lys and the Shimmering Waves, and its use cuts several weeks off a journey that used to have to navigate the southern tip of the continent of Aenica. Lisil imposes trade taxes on ships that use the canal and are, as a result, one of the richest countries on Etrea.
Construction of the canal began around a century ago and took nearly two decades to complete. In places, it is around a mile wide. At its narrowest, it is just wide enough to fit a single ship through. It is mostly straight, with deviations made only for large hills. Many people were displaced during the construction of the canal and it was originally quite unpopular amongst the general population of Lisil.
