Meridan Harbour

A safe port on rough seas

The harbour of the city of Meridan is relatively large due to its status of being an essential stop if travelling along the northern coast of mainland Caia. It is surrounded by a large wall, which is an extension of the wall that surrounds the city, to protect it from invasion. It has the added bonus that it protects the harbour from rough seas as well. The wall has had to be extended three times in the city's lifetime to accommodate more ships, which has led to the existence of inner, outer, far, and farthest sections of the harbour.
The entrance to the harbour is wide enough to fit an Eshuan warship through, but nothing bigger. A large metall grate is hidden away in the wall, and can be pulled across the entrance in times of crisis using levers and pulleys.
The harbour serves as a habitat for a number of different species, drawn in by the protection of the harbour wall. A few seabirds nest on the wall, and the waters are full of several species of fish. One type of crab that is found in the harbour has not been recorded anywhere else.
