"...and that sound you're hearing now, those low vibrations you might be feeling in your chest or abdomen, they are simply the kyyon thrusters. They're needed to break through the low-level magical field that remains here to this day. We're not going to get into the age-old debate about what
Magic is, and whether it's just science we don't understand. But we are going to use the words the people of Solace would have used, and they would have called it magic.
No, it's not all that powerful, but the age of the magic makes it unpredictable, so the kyyon thrusters have been created to protect both us and the integrity of the moon itself. Neat, huh?
Ok, now, if you'll all move towards the windows behind me, you'll get your first glimpse of Solace. Famously home of the group known as
Sanctuary, whom we'll be learning more about later.
The colony itself was once a mining hub, used for extracting ore from Luna and sending it back to the planet's surface. That was until it was bought by a man known simply as The Prophet. That's with a 'ph'. Isn't it funny how words change? Never fails to amuse me, that one.
So from here, you can see the colony in all its glory, just as those first arriving would have seen it, with a few obvious differences of course.
In the centre, here, is something you'll all recognise; The
Tower of Solace. Fun fact, it was the only part of the colony which was built after it was bought by The Prophet.
The high-placed stained-glass windows and the curvature of the eastern side are typical of architecture from this period. The more observant among you will also notice the charring on the southern edge which dates from one of the many mage wars.
There's actually a rather good story about that but we'll come to it later.
Let's start with the tower itself. It took 487 years for the tower to be built. Stories say that the builders were deliberately held up for the final two months so the last stone may be laid exactly 487 years after the first, a prime number..."
