The Gates of Daren

Locked and impassable

The island of Daren is encircled by a large impassable Wall, trapping the entire population inside. Set into the Wall are four Gates, one in each of the cardinal directions: north, east, south, and west. Whilst the rest of the Wall is plain and undecorated, each of the Gates is surrounded by decorative carvings and script in a language that no one unstands. Each gate is around fifteen metres tall and made from a combination of metal and stone. Despite the decorations surrounding them, the gates themselves have a stark design.
Many attempts have been made to unlock the Gates in the last five and a half thousand years since the Renewal, but none have succeeded. It is not yet known whether they are locked by mechanical or magical means, or a combination of both.
