Fearwyd Weald Geographic Location in The Azure Sea | World Anvil

Fearwyd Weald

The Fearwyd Weald is by far the largest arboreal feature in the lands around The Azure Sea, stretching over 200,000 square miles of the south-western lands.   The centre of the Weald is a strange and mysterious place with a dark reputation, and is said to be one of the oldest places in the world. Rumour has it that a strange power known as the Nightshade Demesne is based here, and that the ancient hag Granny Nightshade mixes her plots in her cauldron within the darkest heartland of the forest.   Consequently the few travellers who venture here, in search of lost treasures and adventure, or simply to recover the wood of the forest for construction, do not dare to travel more than a few thousand yards under the eaves. It would be easy to get lost amongst the huge, towering trees.   There is certainly life within the forest, or at least at its fringes. Those who have ventured within say that the expected wildlife grows strange the further under the boughs one travels, and tales of giant, black squirrels and slavering wolves are common. It is also rumoured that the Grugach made their way to the Weald after the Great Schism of the Elves, and now make their homes within the forest. There even persist tales of a great Grugach city that has been built hundreds of feet from the ground amongst the tallest tree boughs.   Tales of strange ruins built by the Antediluvians to be found in the forest are common, and many adventurer and treasure-seeker has set off to explore it's depths. Only a few have ever returned, though some of those are said to have seen great and wondrous things, and to have recovered stones with sigils of ancient design. The ancient fortress of Fil 'Vamel is said to be one such place.
