Port Nyanzaru Settlement in The Azure Sea | World Anvil

Port Nyanzaru

Port Nyanzaru
Port Nyanzaru sits on the western shores of the Drowned Jungle, the only formal settlement on the huge archipelago.   Founded around fifty years ago by explorers from the Cerulean Empire as a base for expeditions into the jungle, it soon fell into disrepair as the vast dense swathe of rainforest proved too difficult for most to penetrate.   Now it sits as a melting pot of cultures where the law is rarely followed and those who are lost or fleeing some past life can live equally with all the other residents. It is a loud, vibrant, aroma-filled colourful frontier town on the edge of a dangerous wilderness - the proverbial hive of scum and villainy.   The vast resources of the Drowned Jungle are traded here, for shipping out to more civilised places. The strange and exotic materials to be found here are eagerly sought, despite the town being surrounded by enemies on all sides. The jungle teems with ferocious reptiles and murderous undead, pirates prowl the surrounding sea, and the mouth of the bay is home to a greedy dragon turtle.   The port is named for the mysterious Nyanzar tribe, which trades with the local populace.

Notable Features and Buildings

  Animal Pens
Most of the beasts of burden in Port Nyanzaru are stabled here. It is highly unusual in that it contains several, partially trained ankylosaurus and triceratops from the jungles.   Dock Warehouse
Goods shipped into and out of port are stored here, under the watchful eyes of Zindar, the harbourmaster.   Executioner's Run
The coastal road that runs through Port Nyanzaru is not just the busiest track in the town, but is often closed off for festivals and races.   Goldenthrone
This old wooden palace serves as the meeting place for the merchant princes of Port Nyanzaru and is recognized as the seat of the city's loose government. It was built decades ago by an Imperial trader and is one of the most opulent structures in the city.   Grand Souk
The Grand Souk of Port Nyanzaru is a colourful collection of awnings that house a bustling and chaotic market. All kinds of strange goods can be purchased here.   Harbourmaster's Office
The Grand Souk is a colourful collection of awnings that house a bustling and chaotic market. All kinds of strange goods can be purchased here.   Nyanzaru Docks
These small docks can only accommodate smaller ships, leaving large vessels to anchor off-shore.   Red Bazaar
No-one knows how the Red Bazaar got its name. One story is that the label comes from the huge slabs of dinosaur meat sold here and the resulting buckets of blood that stain the rain-washed gutters, and that's probably as good an explanation as any. The residents of Port Nyanzaru shop for their daily needs at the Red Bazaar.   Temple of Boccob
The Temple of Boccob is one of the oldest, grandest buildings in Port Nyanzaru. The priests here are wizards, fortune tellers, diviners, and those who unfailingly speak the truth regardless of whether listeners want to hear it. It is a good place to find fortunes, prophecies and palm readings.   The Thundering Lizard
The only tavern in Port Nyanzaru, the Lizard is a raucous place full of drunk jeering revellers. The doorway is framed with the skull of a tyrannosaurus rex.
