Pan-Solar Consortium

"My fellow citizens of the Pan Solar Consortium,   Today, we stand at the threshold of a new era. An era where merit and excellence are the guiding principles of our great civilization. We have transcended the boundaries of nations, of worlds, and of solipsism. We have come together as one humanity, united in our pursuit of progress and perfection.   We have achieved the impossible: a federation of nine planets and three stellar worlds, each a beacon of innovation and discovery. Our planetary technocrats, chosen for their wisdom and expertise, have transformed their respective worlds into marvels of efficiency and harmony.   But our work is far from over. We must continue to push the frontiers of knowledge, to harness the power of science and technology to uplift all of humanity. We must strive for a future where every individual has the opportunity to reach their full potential, unencumbered by the shackles of privilege or circumstance.   Let us march forward together, my friends, with the light of merit as our guiding star. Let us show the universe what it means to be human: to strive, to achieve, and to excel. For the Pan Solar Consortium, for humanity, and for the future – we shall not falter!"   ~Harrison Wade, 39th Speaker for Mankind

Structure

The Speaker for Mankind is elected once every ten years. During this time, he manages the sprawling consortium. The civil side of the consortium is managed by planetary technocrats appointed by the Speaker based on their expertise of their planetary cultures. The military side of the consortium is managed by the PSC Military Committee, which continually comes up with plans and continencies and when they judge that military intervention is needed they bring requests to the Speaker. The Economic side of the PSC is a Corporate-run Market in charge of fiscal policy with the monetary power, policy and funds in the purview of the Speaker and the planetary technocrats. Religious life in the PSC is managed by the Theocratic Council. Legislative needs are handled by the United Body, a representative organization responsible for raising taxes and allocating funds.

Culture

The north star of the organization is merit. Getting the 'best' people in place where they can do the most good and giving them a more or less free hand in doing their jobs.

Public Agenda

The PSC's agenda is the continued growth and success of the 'children of Sol,' a politically correct term popular once the Uplifted and Shackled AI were given rights as civilians.

Military

The PSC Military Committee is made up of the heads of the various military and intelligence branches of the PSC.    The Solar Clone Corps serves as the main army of the line, headed up by the Grand Marshal  The Solar Defense Fleet serves as the PSC's military space fleet and largely guards trade lanes and delivers marines. SDF is headed by the Grand Star Admiral  The Terran Homestar Intelligence handles counterterrorism, contrasedition, anti-separatism, law enforcement between worlds, and even intelligence assets from among alien species, and is led by the Primal Agent.   The Solar Special Operations Directive manages the various commandoes, Cataphract jocks, marines, and rangers of the human and cyborg components of the PSC soldiery.   The Paragon Directorate oversees AI, manufactures and tweaks new generations of Crickets,, and handles offensive and defensive cyberwarfare. The Director of Digital and Robotic Security heads up this group.   The Talent Acquisition and Reconnaissance is a special intelligence group that specifically seeks out mutants to use their talents. This group is led by the TAR Commander.   The various Planetary Technocrats each have their own local defense forces and even some starships to aid in local problems.    In theory, in a time of total war or an emergency situation, the Gigacorporate Forces could be called on to bolster the PSC.

Religion

In solar empires past, there have been cycles of theocratic growth and suppression, pushing religions together in a crucible until the question stopped being "Who do we worship" and became "What does the creator want from us?" As such, there are four major movements.   New Disciples of the Event Horizon of Man believe that mankind is meant to take control of their development by merging with technology.   Perfected Pathfinders believe that mankind is meant to improve their genetics over time, making each generation better than the one before.   Seekers of Wisdom believe that mankind is supposed to find meaning and peace in life, developing the human soul.   Nihilists, most notably the Covenant of Spacers, believe that life is an accident and there is no purpose to any of it.

Foreign Relations

The Pan Solar Consortium maintains good relations with the Kheezers and refugees from among the Reticulans. They are in an uneasy truce with Reptids, and technically at war with the Rigelians although no large scale action has taken place against them in centuries. The PSC's official position on First Contact is to be multiplicitavely reciprocal, meeting friendliness with kindness and threats with annihilation. First Contact with species that have not yet achieved space flight is prohibited by anyone other than special Uplift Teams approved by the PSC government.

Agriculture & Industry

Industrial might of the PSC is handled by Fabricators, Atomic Restructuring plants, and Gigafactorums.   Agriculture is accomplished largely through meat cloning and algae farms. Rural moons accomplish the most agriculture, but even cities have at-home plants for creating food. Most food in the PSC is freeze-dried.

Trade & Transport

Even before the Cozine Disaster,, there were transmat rings between planets. These create Grayspace corridors that manage rapid movement between worlds. Utilizing a transmat ring requires licenses and fees, and some pirates, freelancers, and pleasure cruisers prefer to take the long trip between without translating to Grayspace.

Education

Education is accomplished through MMI Educational Pods. Planetary Technocrats are responsible for programming the curriculum, with a focus on planetary identity, technical skills, and good citizenship.
