Plutonian Defense Army

"The PDA? They're a ragtag bunch, but they're our ragtag bunch. Discipline? Cohesion? Fancy gear? Who needs that? They keep the peace, and that's what matters. And let's be honest, who's gonna mess with Pluto? We're the edge of nowhere. Our troopers may look pretty, but they've got heart. And if a few credits change hands under the table, well... that's just Plutonian entrepreneurship."   ~Ack, Technocrat of Pluto

A Motley

The Plutonian Defense Army (PDA) defies conventional military standards. Comprised of volunteers and part-time soldiers, this motley militia reflects the planet's eccentric culture. Troopers wear black nanoweave jumpsuits with gray clamshells, but everything else is fair game. Personalized gear, scavenged from various sources, is commonplace. Neon graffiti, buttons, pins, and tassels adorn their uniforms, making each trooper's appearance uniquely Plutonian. This individuality fosters esprit de corps, but also contributes to the PDA's notorious lack of discipline. In the rare event that some enemy slips past the planetary shields, the mysterious Kerberoi appear, after which they disappear as soon as the battle is won. PDA Troopers obviously revere these warriors, though they have little more than speculation as to their nature.

Outdated Gear

The PDA relies on aging smart guns, manufactured locally using Pluto's sole Gigafactorum. These trusty 15mm firearms have become synonymous with Plutonian defense. While far from cutting-edge, they're reliable and well-suited for the planet's low-intensity conflicts. Supplementing these vintage weapons, troopers often purchase their own equipment, favoring functionality over flashy tech. This patchwork approach may not impress, but it works for Pluto's unique environment. The PDA's emphasis on practicality over prestige reflects their focus on maintaining order rather than projecting military might.

Supplemental Income

Bribery and side hustles are an open secret within the PDA. With funding perpetually scarce, troopers have learned to supplement their income through creative means. Some moonlight as security consultants or bountineers, while others sell handmade gear or artwork. This gray economy not only boosts individual troopers' finances but also reinforces Pluto's DIY ethos. Acknowledging this reality, the PDA tacitly tolerates these extracurricular activities, provided they don't compromise the force's primary mission: keeping Pluto's streets safe. This unorthodox approach may raise eyebrows elsewhere, but on Pluto, it's simply business as usual.
