Uranian

"The Uranians, or Uranites, are descended from colonists that in ages past had separated themselves from mankind intentionally. They established a University, and studied AI. To this day, they are humanity's principle innovator in the fields of artificial intelligence, and it was on Uranus the the Cozine probes were created. There is something of a national obsession among Uranians to finding out what went so wrong. The laissez-faire attitude among Uranites towards even potentially disastrous inventions has made them a favorite employer base for the Corporations."   ~Quazhe, Kheezer Humanologist.

Unbridled and Unshackled

Uranian culture values the perfection of knowledge above almost all other concerns. Their scientists have deeper understandings of their specialties, their techies are more enthusiastic, and their artificial intelligence is more powerful than average. More illegal, unshackled AIs come out of Uranian moons than the rest of human space combined, twice over. Being raised in this environment, knowledge skills are easier to learn for them as they are immersed in a background social radiation of hyperfixations and excited brilliance. Every Uranian has a special affinity for AI.

Other names

At birth, all Uranites are given a serial number. This goes beyond the ID numbers given to most PSC members, and grows as they age in three digit increments to denote milestones, accomplishments, accolades, crimes, medical history and other factors of identity. While the numbers seem random to outsiders, a Uranite can look at the string of another and attain intimate knowledge of them.

Culture

Major language groups and dialects

Uranite Shorthand is a lossless compression algorithm using a wide variety of techniques to reduce size and inefficiency of communication, all in a DNA based code with four symbols.    Not only does US compress data for maximum efficiency in storage, it can be encoded tonally in a sort of 'song' or stored in mollecular form, which can then be read by any scanner equipped with the cypher. Uranite criminals have been known to inject these codes into their own bloodstream, where they pass harmlessly out after a few days if the message isn't delivered.

Culture and cultural heritage

The original colonists of Uranus were trying to establish a new mode of thought free from the prejudices of Earth against artificial intelligence. They are the originators of the Disciples of the Event Horizon of Man, though this group was too religious for their tastes. They sought advancement of human knowledge by perfecting existing technology rather than new inventions, believing mankind to be on the cusp of ascension to a higher state. Current Uranite culture seeks knowledge, advancement, and perfection of the human knowledge base.

Shared customary codes and values

Uranites value innovation, advancement, and intellectual and monetary freedom. They're ambitious, innovative, and often considered reckless.

Common Etiquette rules

Directness: Uranite communication tends to be very straightforward and to-the-point in their communication. They might not consider social nuances or sugarcoat their words.   Honesty: They often prioritize honesty over tact, which can lead to brutal or blunt statements.   Literalness: Uranites might interpret language literally, missing implied meaning or subtleties.   Lack of filters: They might share their thoughts and opinions without considering social norms or others' feelings.   Difficulty with nuance: Uranite communication can also involve struggling to understand and convey nuanced emotions, leading to seemingly insensitive or blunt statements.

Common Dress code

Uranites prefer minimalist clothing; clean monochromatic clothing and straight lines. The current fashion is a white tunic and pressed trousers with soft feaux-leather boots.

Art & Architecture

Uranite architecture is curved in ways that please the eye but don't compromise space, with open plans and large windows.

Foods & Cuisine

Uranite food tends to have simple flavors packed with nutrients. Offworld, Uranite food is often marketed as 'health food' or 'high efficiency rations.'

Common Customs, traditions and rituals

Uranites introduce themselves with an exchange of data.

Birth & Baptismal Rites

When a Uranite is born they are assigned an initial ten digit code in US, which is their name as far as official records go and will gro throughout their lives.

Coming of Age Rites

When a Uranite graduates from at least eighteen years of education, they are considered an adult and free to pursue their lives. Graduation ceremonies are typically uncharacteristically wild.

Funerary and Memorial customs

When Uranites die, they are cremated and their ashes spread on their birth moon. Their US coded name is stamped on steel and encoded in the Library of Oberon.

Common Taboos

Uranites don't like secrets and have trouble keeping them. They absolutely despise knowing that something is known but that the knowledge is unavailable to them.

Ideals

Beauty Ideals

Uranites seek symmetry and a clean look, and think nothing of replacing parts with cybernetic for practical and aesthetic reasons. As a general rule, they're pale and their hair is commonly light colors, with platinum being the current fashion.

Gender Ideals

Both genders on Uranus often come off as 'feminine' to outsiders, with men being almost as slim, pale and lean as the women.

Courtship Ideals

Uranites prefer to be straightforward, expressing their interest in flat, often blunt terms. Open communication and intellectual discussions are primary, and romantic 'moments' are secondary but still important.

Relationship Ideals

Shared interests, hobbies and hyperfixations are ideal for Uranite relationships.
