Saturnite

"Saturn's moons is home to the University of Saturn, a prestigious organization that had to be rebuilt from the ground up after riots in a previous age burned it to the ground. It used to be that the university ruled Saturn and the PSC intended for that to be the case after rebuilding it. However, the proximity of the Apogee of the Singularity makes the three way tension between the New Disciples of the Event Horizon of Man who believe in man merging with technology and the Perfected Path who believe that man must evolve biologically to attain perfection, and the Seekers of Wisdom who believe in the Old Earth spiritual traditions for enlightenment a constant and dynamic struggle. It only rarely boils over into violence."   ~Quazhe, Kheezer Humanologist.

The Most Stubborn Humans in Space

Saturnites exemplify one of the most stereotypically human traits of the species. When other species think of humans, it isn't their art or their artifice that they think of nor the culture at large or any entertainment genre. The Reticulans, Kheezers, and the like all think of humans as stubborn and curious. Saturnites are known to be the most stubborn, and the most curious of any of humanity, surpassing even Terrans in living the stereotype. From the Haruspex to the Venusian, from the Reticulan to the Altarian Mindgrub, even psychics find it as difficult to change a Saturnite's mind as a warrior finds it to put one down for good.

More recent additions are related to professions or topographics, such as the current Technocrat of Saturn, Professor Markus Hyperion.

Culture

Culture and cultural heritage

Saturn's initial colonists were pilgrims of now long dead cult known as the One Truth. These religious pilgrims braved the harsh conditions as the moons were terraformed and settled, and their thoughtful quiescence made the place attractive to religiously persecuted groups from Earth as the First Terran Empire began its first purges. When the FTE's influence extended past Saturn and they had conquered their wayward people, they planted an Academy on Titan with a mandate to advance human understanding at all costs. While this was initially antitheist in bureaucratic form, it was only a few generations before it devolved into human experimentation and horrific displays of oppression, which eventually culminated in a horrific rebellion. While things have largely calmed down and sectarian violence is at an all time low, the citizens of Saturn have old roots and older grudges.

Shared customary codes and values

Saturnites argue and philosophize. They are sometimes considered insolent by superiors from other worlds, but within the culture questioning even core beliefs is considered useful. Perhaps surprisingly, this serves to make Saturnites even more stubborn and unlikely to change their ways.

Common Dress code

Saturn is the nexus of religious tension in the Solar System, and in the face of this tension the various adherents tend to exaggerate their 'traditional' clothes and looks. This means that Seekers of Wisdom wear all sorts of traditional religious garb from Old Earth, New Disciples of the Event Horizon of Man wear their cybernetics in ostentatious and sometimes baffling displays of transhumanism, and Perfected Path adherents wear very little, displaying their 'perfected' forms in speedos, bikinis, and sometimes less.

Art & Architecture

The tumultuous history of Saturn is on full display in their cultural displays; their buildings are a mad jumble of architectural history often including standing portions of ruins into their designs. Their art is a blend of previous styles and often psychedelic or surrealist in nature. They like when art is difficult to understand and thought provoking.

Foods & Cuisine

Saturnites like complex recipes, and their signature dishes are gumbos, chiles and perpetual stews, with complex flavors and long, low heat cooking.

Common Customs, traditions and rituals

Saturnites ask questions, often in a never ending chain that others find infuriating. Satunites want to understand things.

Birth & Baptismal Rites

Saturnites have a variety of birth blessings and baptisms based on Old Earth traditions. Based on, but rarely actually resembling them.

Coming of Age Rites

Saturnites are considered adults when their formal education is over. For some of the slower ones, this might be thirty Standard Terran Years, and for the prodigies it might occur around age twelve instead.

Funerary and Memorial customs

Saturnites mummify and bury their dead on Pheobe in airtight sarcophagi.

Common Taboos

Saturnites don't like leaving mysteries alone, and have a tendency to obsess.

Ideals

Beauty Ideals

Symmetry and fitness are preferred by Saturnites. Aside from that, high cheekbones and strong jaws are considered attractive.

Gender Ideals

More than most other cultures outside of Terra, the Saturnites stick to the 'male v' and 'female hourglass' body type preference.

Courtship Ideals

Saturnites pursue romance slowly, usually preferring to start as friends. Conversations get deeper until attractions are acknowledged and then their relationships continue at the same slow pace.

Relationship Ideals

Saturnites respect monogamy, and relationships run their course. They prefer long term companions both romantically and as friends, and "Ringside Loyalty" is a euphemism actoss the PSC for a companion who won't abandon you under any circumstances.
