Haus des Drachen
“We do not serve a monarch because one exists. We prepare for the monarch who must.”
Origins in Fire and Faith
Of the Unbroken Ten who rebuilt humanity after the Cozine Disaster, none were quite like Erik Drachen—an eccentric alpine billionaire with a personal museum of medieval Earth and a dream of monarchy reborn. Obsessed with chivalry, honor, and dynastic power, he backed Sebastian “Aurelius” Frost not just with money and technology—including prototype Cataphract mechs—but with conviction that Frost would become a king. When Frost refused to found a dynasty, Erik turned his disappointment into determination. Granted dominion over Saturn’s moon Anthe, he began laying the ideological and logistical groundwork for what would eventually become the Nouveau Palatine, a movement aimed at restoring monarchy—not through coup or conquest, but through readiness.
The Palatine Mission
By Year 180, Haus des Drachen had transitioned from a monarchist conspiracy into a full-fledged ideological crusade. They evolved from schemers into Tenders of the Tree, scouring genetic archives and forgotten genealogies in pursuit of the perfect heir. Until that heir is found, Haus des Drachen believes it is their sacred duty to act as knights in waiting—defenders of order, honor, and bloodline. Their academies on Anthe and throughout the system—most recently expanding to the brutal Wolf System—produce elite warriors, tacticians, and officers. It is no small boast to say that Haus des Drachen trains the best soldiers in Human Space. Their financial model is sustainable, built on the rents of Anthe's tenants, the fees from prestigious military courses, and the patronage of both Houses and government forces like the Astro Landing Force and Solar Defense Fleet.
Knights of the Convergence
Far from idle theorists, the knights-errant of Haus des Drachen are active figures across Human Space. These martial nobles operate with impeccable chivalric codes, battling crime syndicates, crushing pirate fleets, and thwarting threats in the shadows where bureaucracy cannot reach. Their errantry is not symbolic; it is bloody, bold, and often legendary. Among them, the most famous is Dawn Carpellon d’Janus des Drachen, daughter of the current Head of House. With an underworld bounty in the tens of millions and a reputation for cutting a bloody swath through Human Space’s worst, she exemplifies the House’s ethos: unrelenting honor backed by lethal precision. As their enemies whisper of zealotry, and their allies whisper of hope, the House continues to prepare for a monarch who may never come—but whose arrival they see as inevitable.
