Byleth

"Byleth's like a siren's song - beautiful, tempting, and deadly. One minute you're walking through Eden, the next, RAI-infested robots are tearing your squad apart or ancient turrets are blowing your boots off. I've seen guys come here thinking they'll strike it rich, only to end up in a body bag. This place ain't paradise; it's a war zone with a pretty face. We call it 'Paradise Hell' for a reason - it'll lure you in, then rip your soul out."   — Trooper Ryder Thane, Wolfguard, Byleth Protection Detail.

Birthplace of the Old Ones

Byleth is an exoplanet orbiting within the habitable zone of the red dwarf star Wolf, about 14.1 light-years from Earth. It is the second planet in order from its host star in a triple planetary system, and has an orbital period of 17.9 days. At 3.5 Earth Masses, it is classified as a super-Earth exoplanet as its mass is between that of Earth and the ice giants. Orbital pressor and solar arrays pull upwards to bring the surface gravity roughly in line with Earth's, and to bring the heat up to a habitable level in conjunction with atmospheric fortification Terraforming projects all make Byleth relatively paradisical, and it's already been approved for civilian colonization in areas that have been confirmed to exist away from X'Cess ruins.   While it isn't certain, xenoarchaologists believe that Byleth is the homeworld of the X'Cess. The most intact transmat gates, the most recoverable technology, and the most scientifically worthwhile

Paradise Hell

The planet has taken to the Terraforming incredibly well. In fact, ancient machines began Terraforming the place after the first few surveyor teams had landed. While the mix wasn't maximally suitable for human life, it did provide a much simpler stepping stone on the way to true habitability. It's even been described as a Paradise by new colonists. This is a mistake of which they are rapidly disabused. Robotic servants of the X'Cess regularly erupt from the ground, homicidal and beyond diplomacy. RAIs appear from the guttering transmat portals on occasion to plague the inhabitants. Ancient landmines, turrets, or other booby traps can get in the way of ploughing or planting. The artificial biome designed for the heavy atmosphere rapidly evolved into hostile animals and even carnivorous plant life. Every year, a new plague sweeps through, confusing and baffling the colonists and medical staff.   Along with all that, Corporations send kill teams to claim technological discoveries, terrorists such as the Hellfire Cabal seek insights into the X'Cess Redspace technologies, . The temptation and opportunity presented by a massive untouched world filled with the whole technological product of an advanced alien species with no original owners to object ot the plunder has proven too much to resist for many dark souls.   For all these reasons and more, Byleth has followed the colloquial tradition of the three worlds and is commonly referred to as "Paradise Hell" by its inhabitants.
