Astrinex
"NEW, FROM LUMINAR BIOTECH: ASTRINEX GEN-16
"The sixteenth generation of Astrinex Crewmembers features the same pleasing face and form you're used to, the same skills and professional quality you've come to expect, and the same seamless teamwork capabilities that captains across the system rely on as previous generations. The new models' appeal over the old are largely quality of life upgrades that you will never know how you lived without!
"Their high efficiency digestive systems require fewer calories, nutrients, and even water so they won't strain your stores, and their waste products are sanitized, packaged, and ready for the recycler! Their body odors can be chosen upon order so that your ship corridors will stay fresh and pleasant no matter how cramped the conditions. Finally, their attitude can be adjusted with the use of symbols and phrases given to you in the purchaser's manual, ensuring service with a smile if that's what you choose!
"Remember, our competitors may have changed the face of Tess's creation, but they're still just cheap copies!"
Drones of the Hive
The Astrinex ideal is teamwork. Tess Astrinea's ambition was to turn large ships into human 'hives' with a 'queen' in the captain's seat and their clones acting as worker drones operating the whole ship as its crew. Luminar Biotech's flagship still operates on this function, with CAO Neeka Astrinea, Tess's direct descendant, operating the Lux Futuri XVI crewed entirely by the latest generation of Astrinex clones. Astrinex clones communicate with each other with a full variety of EM spectrum emissions, pheremone tracing, and mental memetic conditioning in order to work as a cohesive organism in the operation of a starship. They also function selflessly and are experts at reading human body language, which allows them to complement a human crewmember even if the human isn't used to working as part of a team. All bonuses for teamwork are doubled when an Astrinex is involved, and Astrinex working as a team operate on the highest initiative roll of the group instead of the average.Naming Traditions
Unisex names
For first names, Astrinex typically use names they either invent for themselves shortly after birth or callsigns that they give each other. They accept (usually grudgingly) names given to them by non-clones but will still use their 'own names' amongst each other.
Family names
Astrinex identify themselves by their station or deck in place of a surname.
Ideals
Beauty Ideals
Astrinex are classically designed using their original creator Tess Astrinea's face. She initially used her own form as a template because she was slight and had used that to some success in her early years as a starship tech crawling around maintenance tubes, and intended to change the face. Her face, with its high cheekbones and symmetrical features, was rather popular with her initial investors so she left it on. All LBT Astrinex still carry her face, and most of their competitors also use a variation that is just different enough to avoid a copyright war.
For themselves, the Astrinexi like to exemplify their similarities with little differences. Some will wear contacts to alter their eyes and variations on hairstyle and coloration are popular. Crews tend to trend together, with colors and hairstyles being similar among crew and differentiating themselves against other crews.
Gender Ideals
The vast majority of Astrinex are female. While Celestial Securities produces the only major line of male Astrinex, these are fairly unpopular as the 'brand name' variant is the LBT Astrinex modeled after Tess Astrinea.
Courtship Ideals
Astrinex carry on a long, storied tradition of wild times on shore leave.
Relationship Ideals
Astrinex rarely settle down in a relationship, their death gene makes long term plans unappealing.
