Early Years
Ser Allon was born to Evelyn and Rodrik as a terrible storm wracked the castle at High Hill. His mother died birthing him, and his father left High Hill soon after, unable to bear the reminder of his loss. Allon was raised by his grandparents, ser Lorrie of the Order of the Wyrm and Aidel Stoneblade. He began squiring for his grandfather at a young age, and was knighted by him on his 16th birthday. Shortly thereafter he responded to a call for aid from a nearby settlement that was the target of a group of bandits. Returning victorious to High Hill he found it ruined, the ground beneath the castle weakened by repeated floods and subsided under the weight of the walls and towers. He found nothing in the flooded caverns below the castle but the ruined bodies of his family and a battered shield with his grandmother's sigil. Allon spent the next several years as a Hedge Knight, eventually becoming a proficient Tourney Knight riding in events throughout The Continent of Greland.Stormwyrm Shield
Fairstrand
In the summer of 441KS ser Allon attended The Tourney at Fairstrand. During the course of the Tourney he entered the service of House Foxworth along with ser Jorgan Saltcliffe and ser Tobin Caerlight. Although he was eliminated by ser Ivvar Bonebrake in his first match he performed much better in the Exhibition Melee, securing victory for House Foxworth's team over the team from House Wynch and winning the title of Lord of Redbridge for himself. Ser Allon was also instrumental in the fighting that took place on the final day of the Tourney, personally capturing both Prince Dalran Somercrag and ser Mitchar Hespeak. When the revolutionary forces departed Fairstrand to enact The Revolution of 441KS ser Allon was appointed to lead the forces of House Foxworth in the field under ser Tyon Cray. They were ferried to Castle Blackbar aboard The Black Bull under Captain Rila Stoneheart. The Revolution
Ser Allon led the forces of House Foxworth through The Storming of Felweather Keep, lifting The Siege of Baremaw and then the Battle of Bayglen. He was amongst those forces left to hold the line on The Royal Lawn while ser Tyon Cray's forces undermined the castles defences. When it finally came to The Storming of Bayglen Castle ser Allon's forces played rearguard to the main force. He deferred command to ser Newall Foxworth when his reinforcements arrived toward the end of the battle.Aftermath
As a reward for his service during the war, ser Allon was elevated to the position of Lord of Southbay. Following the victory at the capital, ser Allon was amongst those sent to deal with the remaining Royalist Soldiers. First they travelled to Allerton where ser Allon successfully disarmed and captured ser Kyra Crowler to be taken to the capital and recieve ser Tyon's justice. Ser Allon claimed ser Kyra's Mace as a trophy of the fight. Ser Tyon's forces then proceeded to The Siege of Haycastle. Ser Allon volunteered to approach the castle alone under a flag of truce to attempt to negotiate with the defenders. He successfully negotiated their surrender and the release of their captives in exchange for their indentured servitude to House Southbay. This angered many of the other knights in the party, especially ser Astris Conklyn, who felt that Allon had denied ser Tyon Cray the right to punish the criminals as they deserve. Chief among the captives taken this way was ser Edam Bracks. Ser Allon sent the captured men ahead to Southbay under guard of the House Foxworth forces still under his command, and returned to Bayglen with the rest of ser Tyon's forces to witness the coronation and discuss the prisoners with ser Tyon. Ser Tyon agreed to honour ser Allon's word to the prisoners, but the event created a tension between the two knights. Ser Allon was amongst the crowd who watched ser Tyon's coronation and the subsequent execution of ser Kyra Crowler and the captured royal knights and soldiers who refused to accept the new King's authority. The following day he departed for Southbay.Lord of Southbay
Ser Allon's journey to Southbay took him through the lands of his fellow Vassals to The Darklyn Duchy. He laid the foundations of relationships with each of them, and in the course of his travel took ser Karden Hawthorne and Laina Falcin into his service. Upon arriving in Southbay ser Allon appointed Edam to the position of Marshal over Southbay's military and set him on the task of finding homes for the Royalist Soldiers now indentured to the house. Ser Allon also wrote to Rila Stoneheart regarding an opportunity for harvesting and shipping ice from The Great Grinding up the East coast of Greland. He also met Isambard Brunel, one of the captured soldiers, who had been heavily traumatised by the wars of the past few years and begun recieving visions. Finally, ser Dawsin Bartholomeo arrived in Southbay at ser Allon's invitation at the head of a small force of The Order of the Wyrm. Ser Allon allowed them to settle in Southbay Castle in exchange for protecting the ships in his harbour as they do those in The Kingdom of Rotheval. Ser Allon then departed for Old Caulstid, an area of his lands with a long history of bandit trouble. His forces were successful in driving out the bandits from the ruins of Caulstid Castle, but ser Allon was grievously wounded by the bandits' leader and would have died if not for the timely intervention of his Squire Laina. Once he recovered from this injury ser Allon travelled to Darklyn Point to swear his Oath of Fealty to his Duchess, Hallkatla Darklyn. While there he was challenged to a Duel by Hallkatla, and although he eventually yielded to her superior strength she was impressed enough to appoint him to Marshal of the Duchy's military forces.Return to Southbay
Upon his return to Southbay ser Allon discovered some unrest. It seemed to have been caused partly by Isambard Brunel and Boris, a member of Aline Troter's Caravan, having begun preaching the ways of The Stormwyrm to folks in the city, and partly by the pressures placed by local business and landowners on the people who lived and worked in the city. Ser Allon responded by opening his own home, Gladewood House, to those in need and then set about working alongside the Southbay City Watch to seize control of the city from the businesses. Some time later Southbay hosted The Festival of the Stormwyrm, with many neighbouring Lords and Ladies in attendance. Following the success of the festival a great number of those attending decided to ride together to The Hollow to attend the Tourney organised there to celebrate the anniversary of King Tyon I Cray's ascension to the throne.Tourney at The Hollow
Over the course of the journey and the opening days of the Tourney it became apparent to those travelling together that the various Vassals of The Darklyn Duchy were at a disadvantage compared to the other duchies. They were less organised, less aware of recent occurences at court, and with neither their Duchess nor an Appointed Representative attending the event they were excluded from The King's table at the feasts. In fact it seemed that with ser Allon being appointed as Marshal of the duchy he may have been the first such appointment in House Darklyn's history. Of the jousting itself ser Allon performed admirably, placing second overall. He also led the duchy's force in the Exhibition Melee, driving the King's forces from the field before succumbing to the onslaught of The Gaunt Duchy's force. On the road back from the Tourney ser Allon was joined by ser Virginie Locke who openly admitted her interest in ser Allon. Over the course of the journey the discomfort of the various Darklyn Vassals with the inaction of their duchess turned into the seeds of rebellion and they set plans in motion to gather a large military force in Southbay where they would use the resumed bandit activity in Caulstid as an opportunity to train together in preparation to march on Darklyn Point and depose House Darklyn. The Coming Storm
With House Brume having not been present, ser Allon made them a stop on his journey back to Southbay. Lady Sigveldt and her father Grant Brume negotiated for their house to recieve a guaranteed position as Stewards of the future Duchy in return for the support of their troops. Lady Sigveldt then volunteered to travel to Bayglen with ser Virginie Locke to present the situation to King Tyon I Cray, much like Tyon's own attempts to convey the truth to House Somercrag two years earlier. Sailing across Westlake and along The Conbridge River to Southbay, by late February the knight was back in his own lands. He recieved Lady Ophelia Buckhaill, the Spitting Image of Lady Ophelia Foxworth-Hayford, who he assigned to his Steward, Esthis Batler, to learn the position with the goal of taking it over in the future. By March, the majority of the military might within The Darklyn Duchy had gathered in Southbay under the guise of practising large scale manoeuvres against the bandits in Old Caulstid to help the new Marshal gauge the Duchy’s readiness for war. However those plans were dashed when in late March news reached ser Allon that a band of knights from The Kingsguard of Tyon I Cray had arrived in the city. The leader of the band, ser Nathan Eastford, revealed that King Tyon I Cray had penned a Charter outlining the responsibilities of his Dukes and Duchesses, responsibilities House Darklyn had long neglected. And just like that, ser Allon’s rebellion had become a Royal Coalition to depose Halkatla.War With The Giant
Allon's gathered forces began to be shipped along the coast to Blackmyre using the service of various Hillhurst Captains, including Rila Stoneheart and Tylan Hewlett. They received word of a House Darklyn force marching on the village of Eastcross and Allon, alongside Lord Carreth Conklyn at the head of the The Men-at-Arms of the lowlands of the Skanler Duchy and Shela Blackwood commanding The Men-at-Arms of House Brume, marched to meet them at The Battle of Eastcross, where they drove off several Mercenary Companies under Hallkatla's employ, including Shela Blackwood capturing several of The Queens' Men's elite Queensbloods and Allon personally slaying Marshall, scattering The War Trunks. They followed this victory with a Raid on The Darklyn Forces' Encampment as it advanced on Blackmyre Castle. The raid was a success, damaging the advancing army's supplies and focring them to take up a more cautious advance, however ser Allon was injured in the fighting. Allon was still recuperating when the Darklyn forces reach Blackmyre Castle, leaving ser Darris Blackmyre to take command of The Battle of Blackmyre Castle. Some time after battle was joined the sound of multiple war horns blasted Castle Blackmyre. Assuming the worst, Allon hobbled from his bed to the gates of the castle to meet the enemy with a sword in his hand, only to discover the second Army of the Skanler Duchy had arrived behind the enemy as they routed, winning the day. With the new information brought by the reinforcements that a second large Darklyn army was in the field, Allon concluded that Darklyn Point itself must be relatively undefended. He resolved to march his own forces on Hallkatla's castle, either to find her there or to force her to return to face him. He also came up with ingenious idea to assault Darklyn Point from above, crossing The Witwell Mountains to the North of the castle and then scaling them West of The Point, before using a system of ropes and pulleys to lower men directly into the castle's courtyard, to open the gates for his army as it advanced up the narrow winding path and stairs to reach the gate from below. With the assistance of ser Cemali Amberrock he successfully executed this plan, despite an attempted assassination by members of The Ring of Knives Mercenary Company hidden amongst his men. They Siezed the Castle with few losses, before fighting their way into the tunnels below the keep to Hallkatla's throne room. As Allon reached the cavernous hall carved into the mountain below the keep, the tides of combat had brought ser Dominic Winthrop, ser Darris Blackmyre, ser Nathan Eastford, Shela Blackwood, Benarg Tyren and Stormprophet Isambard Brunel to his side. Inside the throne room Hallkatla was accompanied by severl Darklyn Bastards, including Lerric and Herric Darklyn, whose triplet Derric had almost ended Allon's life at The Raid on The Darklyn Encampment before being killed by Shela Blackwood. As Hallkatla rose from her carved stone throne, a single arrow winged its way across the room from Shela Blackwood's bow, landing neatly in the middle of her bare throat and dropping her back onto the seat, dead. Furious, the other Darklyn's sought no quarter from the attackers, and were cut down by the gathered knights, finally putting an end to Allon's coup. Finally, seeking to put an end to any symbols of the reign of House Darklyn of Darklyn Point, Allon strode forward and, with his Blackstone Blade, cleaved the stone seat in two. As he did so, a booming clap of thunder rung through the castle. It was shortly followed by screams from above, and Allon and the others in the throne room rushed to the surface to watch in horror as sheets of ice broke off the face of The Great Grinding visible to the South, crashing into the sea and causing a massive wave to rise up, crashing into the Southern coast of the Duchy.Allon's Announcement at the Festival of the Stormwyrm, 453KS
"People of Somercrag – children and siblings of heroes and survivors. For many years you have faced war, banditry, and devastation. You have toiled and bled and served in silence as your parents and their parents had. Thirteen years ago, I came to your Kingdom, and was granted the honour of proving myself worthy to stand amongst you all as an equal. For five months, I marched and fought and bled alongside those sworn to then ser Tyon Cray, and was awarded the holding of Southbay upon his coronation – and with it, the duty of serving the best interests of this noble kingdom and its people. A duty that has seen me scarred, celebrated, and cursed in equal measure. But here you stand, after a decade of peace and prosperity, proud and accomplished. Some may say your lot is to never be remembered as your forefathers and mothers, for enjoying the fruits of their efforts. Those who say that are fools. You inherited a land ravaged by plague and riven with division, and together forged it into the mightiest Kingdom in Greland. You looked at your plenty, and deemed it more than enough to offer in faith to those struck by the vagaries of fate. People of Somercrag, I salute you. With your futures secure, I see my duty is fulfilled. As such, know that I am stepping down from the position entrusted to me by my peers and friends. Whilst House Southbay shall always serve its duchy, oaths I swore before the grace granted to me by you and your King compel me to continue on my own path. There are those who futures are not secure, who still struggle against danger and misfortune. Those who once served my blood, until they were swept away in the mires of Baycotte. It is to them I shall now return, older and wiser than I once was, and more capable to help them thanks to your help. I march to my ancestral home of High Hill, to reestablish the order that has long been gone from Baycotte. It is a daunting task, but one I must confront – for it is my home, and I have been away for too long. But I know that it will take more than a strong sword arm to bring a semblance of what you all enjoy here to the people of Baycotte, and so I ask of you, not as Duke Allon Southbay, but simply ser Allon Stormborn – are there any amongst you willing to walk into the unknown with me? Myself and a party of companions depart as soon as the spring thaws set in. We shall head west, to Lionsguard. Should any of you be willing to join me in this endeavour, to spread peace and prosperity as you yourselves have enjoyed to those who have languished with neither for too long, meet us there. Together, we will carve our names and efforts into history. ‘Til Sea Swallows All!"As part of the closing events of The Festival of the Stormwyrm, ser Allon addressed the gathered guests, announcing his intention to set aside his ties to House Southbay of Southbay, The Southbay Duchy and The Kingdom of Somercrag as a whole in order to lead A Caravan into The Swamps of Baycotte to pursue his famillial claim over High Hill.
