Welcome to Greland

Welcome to Greland

Greland is a role-playing game set primarily in The Kingdom of Somercrag in The Continent of Greland, a low-fantasy world where players band together to raise Noble Houses and lead them to prominence against a background of conflict on multiple scales, personal, political, even international.

How it Works

The Greland game uses a stripped-down version of the Genesys role-playing game, with a strong focus on collaborative story-telling.

One Story, Multiple Viewpoints

A commonly held rule in role-playing games is "Don't Split The Party". This game throws that rule out, and instead assumes that most of the time the player characters will be split up. Most of the time the party will still be pursuing the same objectives, or working toward a common goal - the good of their house, or their nation, or some other cause.
This means the game will often shift focus between the player characters in various locations. One session might be split evenly between two or three characters, while another time a single character might be the centre of attention for several sessions - especially in a long-running combat encounter.
To assist with this, there are several tools that the other players can use to stay involved while the focus is on another player character - Story Points allow players to introduce items and characters to scenes, or to affect things that are happening; a roster of Minor Player Characters can provide allies that can assist the main characters; and, of course, players are more than welcome to actually have their characters meet up to work on things together - this will often happen for big social events like Tourneys.

Game Concepts

Some key concepts used in the game are explained in the following pages:
  • Story Points, a resource players can use to influence the story around the Player Characters.
  • The Timeskip, a set of rules that cover how time will advance between periods of active narrative.
