The Continent of Amoth
The Black Sun
The Outer Influence of The Black Sun
The area under the outer reaches of The Black Sun's influence are cast in a perpetual gloom. The actual sun can be seen passing overhead as though through thick storm clouds, and it casts a dim grey light during the day. Those who are born or live here are referred to as Born Under The Black Sun, and are a cruel, nihilistic people.
Plants grow in this area, but they are often pale and weak from lack of sunlight. Although it is possible to rear livestock here, they are affected by the aura of The Black Sun and so will be vicious and hard to manage.
The Black Sun affects physical health, especially increasing the lethality of injuries - which are more frequent due to the nature of the area's inhabitants. It also has effects on the mental health of those who dwell near it, further contributing to the shorter average lifespan.
The Inner Influence of The Black Sun
The inner area of The Black Sun's aura is darker still, with the sun's passing overhead more akin to a bright star in the night sky than sunlight. Plants which grow here grow blackened and twisted, and generally are bitter but edible. Those who dwellso far into The Black Sun's aura are unsurprisingly more strongly affected by it. Even the most benevolent person will find that as they pass into its inner influence they become cruel, and those who are exposed to it for an extended time will be permanently changed.
The Shadow of The Black Cloud
Further in toward The Black Sun, a massive Black Cloud hangs over Amoth. Nothing lives under the cloud. It is possible to pass briefly through it, though the heavy dust which hangs in the air and coats everything has disastrous long term effects on the health of those exposed to it.The sun is not visible through the black cloud at all.
The sea below the black cloud is dark, and the surface carries the black dust, radiating darkness in a similar way to bioluminescant plankton.
The Black Sun itself can be seen from any part of this area, and lays a terrible weight on any who gaze upon it.
The Threshold
Further in still, there is said to be a line which no living thing can cross. The sea in this area is made up entirely of a viscous black fluid which seems at times to move and shape itself in ways which defy logic.
