The Yrrch of the Northern Spine
One of three main groups of Yrrch present on The Continent of Amoth, as the name suggests the Yrrch of the Northern Spine are located mostly in the upper reaches of The Northern Spine, a mountain range which ranges vertically across the Northern landmass of Amoth.
The Yrrch of the Northern Spine are the most 'traditional' of the three groups of Yrrch, having isolated themselves from both The Black Sun and those Born Under Its Influence. Of course, due to the nature of the Yrrch, this distinction is only apparent to outsiders - the Yrrch themselves consider all Yrrch to be part of a single identity, so are unable to recognise any cultural differences between their groups.
The Yrrch have numerous scattered small settlements, such as those encountered by ser Ashtin Phyrefenn herding bison in the Western foothills near The Roost, Amoth. The bulk of their population, however, lives in a single hidden enclave within a caldera high in the mountains, reachable only by treacherous passes and underground caverns. Inside the bowl of the caldera, hundreds of Yrrch live in the largest known gathering of Yrrch.
Some time ago, though how long exactly is unclear - ask the Yrrch and they simply say 'as long ago as long is long', apparently they have the same approach to history as they do to identity - an individual arose amongst the Yrrch of the Northern Spine who became known as The One Who Speaks For The Yrrch. This particular Yrrch seems to be something of an anomaly, possessing a sense of self not seen in the others of its species. For reasons unclear the other Yrrch seem to defer to the speaker's authority.
