The Kingdom of Irogonie
Irogonie is one of the kingdoms controlling large swathes of The Continent of Greland, covering much of the Northern and Eastern coastlines and The Landswake Islands which connect the North-Eastern point of Greland to the neighbouring The Continent of Igend. To the East it borders The Kingdom of Rotheval, while the remainder of its border is with The Lamas Plains.
As its coastline meets the calmed waters of The Mirror Sea its coast is relatively stable compared to The Swamps of Baycotte on the Western coast of Greland. It benefits from close proximity to Igend for easy trade of resources not available in Greland, particularly foodstuffs. This free trade has also led to cultural exchange, with Irogonie being the only kingdom of Greland so far to have adopted Dualism.
Quickside an inland city which sits between forks of The River Quick, was the capital of Irogonie until 354KS, when it was moved to the coastal city of Greenpeak - a move made both to escape the influence of The Quickside Spire which public opinion was turning against, and to be closer to Igend.
Irogonie's borders are heavily contested, especially in the West where they meet Rotheval. As a result it has a strong military culture, which has been bolstered by their adoption of the dualist culture, with Knightly Orders being formed around both White and Black Knights.
Irogonie contains the largest population of immigrants among the kingdoms of Greland, both from the other kingdoms and from Igend. By contrast, few Irogonians feel life in other kingdoms suits them, finding their neighbours' cultures stunted and backwards.
In 439KS a variety of factors led to Irogonie initiating a landgrab against the peoples of the Lamas Plains. Unexpectedly, the The Kingdom of Somercrag stepped in to defend the Plainsfolk. The resulting war, called The Irogonie Aggression, ended with the death of the crown prince of Irogonie, and the Kingdom ceding almost half its lands to a combination of the Lamas Plainsfolk and the Somercragians. The lands siezed by Somercrag would go on to become The Foxworth Duchy.
