The Great Rift
When The King's Eye fell to land on the Twenty-Third night of March 454KS, it crashed into the sands of The Lamas Plains with such force that it transformed the desert around it, and blasted great cracks into the ground, which had already been devastated by multiple earthquakes over the course of the preceding years.
The first documented exploration of the area was by ser Callor Perryn and the members of his Errantry Quest, as recorded in the writings of Jaddon Vaith.

Geography
For days before reaching the crater, the ambient light of The King's Eye can be seen, growing in intensity as you draw closer to it, until it renders the sky so bright that there is no difference between night and day.
For many miles around the crater created by the impact of The King's Eye, the sands of The Lamas Plains have been subjected to such heat that they have been vitrified into glass. Sandglass spreads out from the crater frozen into waves, iridescent in the glow of the Eye itself, and often razor sharp.
The crater opens into a network of caves and chasms that spread across the surface of the plain, and stretch perhaps as far as a thousand feet below the ground, with the Eye itself resting at the deepest point. As the depth increases, layers of the glass give way to shattered or even melted rock.
The chasm intersects with numerous prexisting channels in the rock, both natural ones bored into the rock by water or tectonic activity, and those created by underground subterranean dwellers such as Subterranean Landsnails, and possibly other things.

Fauna & Flora
The Subterranean Landsnail, a heretofore undiscovered sub-species of the Giant Landsnail, has been found in relatively large numbers within the chasms, and their tunnels seem to make up the majority of the preexisting passages below the ground in this area.
Mysterious humanoid creatures, referred to in Jaddon Vaith's writings as Plainswalkers, have also been encountered in and around the chasm, with some possible evidence of primitive settlement by them within the tunnels created by the great snails.

Natural Resources
Aside from The King's Eye itself, there are a number of resources that may prove to be useful, valuable or both, to be found within the chasms of the Great Rift.
Sandglass refracts light beautifully, especially the light of the Eye, and may have value for use in art or architecture. It also brakes easily into sharp fragments, and has already been put to use by The Chasm's Mysterious Humanoid Inhabitants as devastating heads for javelins - it could likely see similar use in arrowheads or crossbow bolts.
The shells of the Subterranean Landsnails show striations of metals and precious stones, suggesting a wealth of mineable materials in their tunnels that intersect the chasm.
