Lady Laycie Sawler

Chancellor Laycie Sawler

Early Life
Laycie was born in 398KS, the daughter of a Hedge Knight, ser Auster Sawler serving House Somercrag in Bayglen Castle.

Serving House Somercrag
She grew up in and around the palace, and at the age of nine entered into service of House Somercrag herself, first as a servant of Malina Somercrag, the wife of King Samuel Somercrag, and later as a Handmaid to their first daughter, Sola Somercrag.

Laycie and Sola were fast friends, and through attending the young princess Laycie learned a great deal, both about the royal household, but also the wider education which the princess recieved and Laycie absorbed.

While Sola served as Squire to ser Boggs Leonhart Laycie's responsibilities to her were less, though she still attended her those occasions where she was expected to act as a princess rather than the young knight she was becoming. The combination of position and lowered responsibility allowed Laycie to pursue some romantic relationships, and although she never found a suitable match for herself long-term, in 417KS she had her first child Jaron, followed the next year by a daughter, Nalia
In 421, when Sola was knighted, Laycie left her service and returned to a position in the royal household, although it quickly became apparent that she was wasted as a servant or even as the handmaid of the King's consort. Instead, she began advising the King, and occasionally the Royal Council, at first about the status of the palace staff, but later occasionally standing in for the elderly Royal Historian Cassel.

One of her first actions in this position was to recruit Ophelia Hayford, the daughter of Duchess Lauryn Hayford, to take her place as ser Sola's Handmaid.

The Royal Council
At some point the position of Spymaster, unofficial at that time, was created to suit her talents. Around the same time, at the King's instruction, it became customary to refer to her as 'Lady Laycie Sawler', although in truth she held no official title that should afford her such respect.

The Irogonie Aggression
When the armies of The Kingdom of Somercrag mobilised to resist The Irogonie Aggression in 440KS, Laycie found herself taking over for the Chancellor to the Royal Council. In this capacity, she was responsible for several of the rewards dispensed following their victory in that war, including arranging the marriage of Lady Ophelia Hayford to ser Newall Foxworth, the Hero of Starfield.

Tyon's Revolution
When Sola was killed and the country errupted into Revolution, Laycie mourned for her friend, and did not participate in any way.

When ser Tyon Cray's forces claimed the capital, she was amongst those members of the Royal Household who accepted his new authority and soon resumed her duties for the new King.

Serving House Cray
In the years since King Tyon I Cray took the throne, Laycie has been instrumental in making and securing a number of important connections, not least being the one between King Tyon and Princett Nym Cimber of Rotheval.

In 443KS she was able to negotiate positions for her children. Jaron became Chancellor to House Foxworth of Fairstrand, while Nalia was wed to Lord Tylan Hewlett, the new Lord of Old Caulstid.
