Tilas (Till-lass)
Tilas, otherwise known as the Jewel of the West a name it shares with the Tangir Sultanate that occupies it, is a large island in the western part of the world of Zalastor. It is located west of the continent of Zalas and south of the islands of Sildra and Tor. The island is known for its temperate climate and fair weather mostly. The island is mostly home to Humans, Sea Elves and Triton, although other species can be found there in small numbers.
Geography
The island is most notable for its two large forests that occupy the northern and southern portions of the island. The island does not contain any major rivers instead containing only small streams and creeks. The land outside the two forests is mostly grassland and rolling hills. The shores of the island are all generally sandy and shallow sloped except for the northern shores which are extremely rocky and home to numerous sets of cliffs.
Climate
The island holds a temperate climate like that of its eastern neighbor Zalas. The weather is typically sunny although rain storms roiling in from the north are a common occurrence. The temperature tends to stay between 40-80 degrees with temperatures outside of that rare but possible. The weather tends to be more fair the more south you go on the island with lower temperatures and stormy weather more present on the northern parts of the island.
History
The island is thought by scholars to have been created by the god Tarsen during his time of great creation. It is thought to have been one of the last of the landmasses to have been created. It is believed to have been first discovered by Humans making their way from the mainland of Zalas. Eventually other species made their way to the island most notably being Sea Elves and Triton. These main three species settled together in relative peace eventually founding the Tangara Sultanate which marked the first nation state on the island. After several hundred years the nation fell apart due to civil war and the Tangir Sultanate was founded in its place and has held control of the island ever since.
