Sankor (San-core)
Sankor, otherwise known as the Sister Isle, is a large island of the north/northeast coast of the continent of Zalas. It is neighbored by the continent itself but also by its brother island of Tankar to the northwest and by the volcanic Ash Island in the north. Surrounding the island are the many seas of The Narrows and on its eastern edge lies the Eastern Sea. The island is relatively unexplored due to the difficult nature of getting to the island along with its seeming unnatural bad luck that befalls would be explorers.
Geography
The exact geography of the island is not well known as attempts to map the island have only recently begun. What is known is that there is a large central forest running down the spine of the island. The shorelines for the island are mostly rocky cliff faces which makes finding a port or landing spot difficult at best.
Climate
The weather is thought to be relatively fair on the island itself although the waters around the island which make up The Narrows are known to be very rough, choppy, and full of storms that batter the coast line. The full temperature range is uncertain although it is believed to fall within normal temperate ranges being 40-80 degrees.
History
Believed by most historians and scholars to have been originally connected to the continent of Zalas but then the goddess Alari created The Narrows by separating the island and its brother island of Tankar from the continent. It is believed that she did this because she was annoyed by how long it took to sail around the northeastern tip of the continent. The island was discovered by the mainlanders long ago but attempts to map or settle the island have always ended in disaster. Because of the lack of a nation state controlling the island it has long been used as a haven for pirates, outlaws, and exiled people. The fact that so much trade flows through the waters of The Narrows between the Free Cities and the nations west of it has only contributed to this problem due to its location.
