Tor (Tore)
Tor, otherwise known as the Western Isle, is a relatively small island in the very northwest of the world of Zalastor. It lies across the Bay of Illaria from its eastern neighbor the island of Sildra. It is entirely within and under the control of the Kingdom of Sildra-Tor and the nation takes the latter half of its name from the island. It is largely populated by High Elves, Humans and Hill Dwarves although it does have smaller portions of other species.
Geography
Much like its counterpart to the south the island of Tilas, the island of Tor is dominated by two large forests occupying its northern and southern ends respectively. The area between the two forests, known as the Gull's Path, is a large grassland with small rolling hills. While there are no major rivers on the island there is plenty of streams, creeks, and ponds to be fond throughout the island. Much of the terrain of the island is relatively flat aside from its northern shores which end in jagged cliff faces. The eastern shore bordering the Bay of Illaria is home to many natural inlets that make for deep-water ports.
Climate
The island is known for its relatively fair weather and temperature. Typically storms travel south towards the Abecean Sea and the island of Tilas. Temperatures tend to range from 40-80 degrees with extremes outside of that range rare but possible.
History
The island is thought by scholars and historians to have been created by the god Tarsen at the same time as the island of Sildra during his time of great creation. It's believed that it was created after the continent of Zalas but before the island of Tilas. It was first discovered by Humans sailing over from the neighboring island of Sildra after some disagreements with the High Elves that lived there. Unlike its eastern neighbor it rarely has been apart of a larger nation state instead typically just existing as a series of city states and townships due in part to its isolation. Its nature as part of the Kingdom of Sildra-Tor is due to the island being conquered and subjugated by Corellion II during his great unifying.
