Tankar (Tan-car)

Tankar, otherwise known as the Brother Isle, is a large island of the northern coast of the continent of Zalas. Its bordered by its sister island of Sankor to the southeast along with Ash Island to the northeast and the mainland to the south. Its surrounded by the tumultuous seas of The Narrows to its south and the raging ocean of The Shoaling Deep to its north/northwest. The island is mostly unexplored and uninhabited due to the difficult nature of getting to and landing on the island.

Geography

Much like its sister isle to the southeast Sankor, the island is relatively unexplored which has made mapping its geography incomplete and largely a mystery. What is known is that a large central forest runs from west to east across the center of the island. Also like its neighbor its coastlines are lined with jagged, rocky cliffs that make landing on the island difficult at best and impossible if the seas are acting foul.

Climate

The island itself it believed by scholars and explorers to have much harsher weather than its southeastern counterpart due in part to its bordering of The Shoaling Deep which throws many storms at the island. The temperatures is believed to stay within the normal temperate ranges of 40-80 degrees although extensive testing has not been done to confirm this.

History

The island is believed by scholars to have originally been connected to the mainland of Zalas but was separated from it along with is twin island of Sankor when the goddess Alari created The Narrows as a way of speeding up travel around the northeastern tip of the continent. Like its twin island Tankar was discovered by mainlanders long ago but due to its even harsher weather, rocky coastlines, and the tumultuous nature of The Narrows to the south the island has not been extensively explored and mapped. The island has long been used a den for bandits, pirates and outlaws due to its location next to vital trade lanes and no nation controlling it.
