Southern Grey Mountains
The Southern Grey Mountains or simply the Southern Mountains is a large mountain range running west to east on the continent of Zalas. It stretches nearly the entirety of the continent stretching from the Undying Desert in the east to the western coast. It is the southern branch of the Grey Mountains as it has a counterpart to the north of it that runs parallel to itself. It forms the border to many nations such as the Listuroni Sultanate, the Ashiri Empire and the The Dread Lords and thus is not claimed entirely by any single nation. It is most well known for its freezing temperatures and heavy snowstorms centered around them.
Geography
The mountains start with the foothills of them which stretch for several miles from the mountains themselves. The foothills vary greatly in terrain with some rising sharply and dramatically into the mountains and others being slow-rising that lead into the mountains. The mountains themselves contain large amount of small streams, creeks and ponds as well as numerous rivers that flow from them. The mountains are much shorter than its northern counterpart the Northern Grey Mountains although they still tower above the ground below.
Natural Resources
The mountains contain many number of mineral resources such as Iron, Copper, Gold, Silver and Lead. The mountains also contain many streams, creeks, ponds and rivers which stand as a source of freshwater. The foothills of the mountains also contain the edges of many forests and jungles which contain a great source of lumber.
History
The mountains are thought by scholars to have been created by the god Tarsen during his time of great creation at the same time as the creation of the continent of Zalas. They have long defined the borders of nations and peoples and have worked to shield certain groups and lands from each other. They also help to contain the spread of the Undying Desert in the east. The mountains have long been used by the local populace as a source of resources.
