Tangir Sultanate (Tan-jeer)

The Tangir Sultanate otherwise known as the Jewel of the West or simply the Sultanate is large nation occupying the island of Tilas in the west of the world of Zalastor. They are a relatively peaceful kingdom preferring to trade goods and wares as opposed to entering conflict. They prefer to barter for the best deal to secure what they want as a nation. The sultanate is an older nation in the world of Zalastor and have mainly sided with the Listuroni Sultanate on foreign affairs for most of their history. The nation is well known for its beautiful cities said to have been made with so much gold and silver that they shine like a beacon in the sun. The people of the sultanate are renowned for their skilled merchants and traders along with some of the finest diplomats the world has known.

Structure

The Sultanate is an absolute monarchy and ruled by a sultana. She appoints emirs to govern her major cities which are typically the heads of major noble houses. They are responsible for governing their own particular jurisdiction.

Culture

The Tangiri are seafaring, trading people similar to that of the Listuroni Sultanate, thus their strong cultural ties to each other. They value trading, bartering and debating highly and produce some of the most wealthy merchants in the world. They lack a strong sense of military identity other than at sea and thus prefer to solve problems with economic deals and incentives. A friendly and welcoming society for the most part, they welcome outsiders and strangers to their lands as they see it as a further opportunity for trade and profit.

History

The Tangir Sultanate was formed in the year 1234 AC by one of the remaining families of the old Tangara Sultanate. After the collapse of the old sultanate one of the noble families took power and renamed it to the Tangir Sultanate and started ruling instead. The Sultanate has known peace through much of its three hundred or so year existence by forming strong relations with the only other strong seafaring nation near it in the Listuroni Sultanate. They have grown to have much influence in the world by the use of their strong trade fleets and economic capabilities.

Demography and Population

The sultanate is largely made up of three main species that being the Sea Elves, Humans and Triton. Sea Elves make up the majority of the population being around forty to fifty percent while Humans and Triton each make up around ten to twenty percent. There is also a smattering of other races present in smaller numbers. The population is heavily concentrated in the cities and towns of the nation with the countryside being sparsely populated and very spread out. A large percentage of the population lives within the capital of Tir-Alis.

Territories

The sultanate fully controls the islands of Tilas and the waters surrounding it as well as various trade stops throughout the different nations of the world.

Religion

Religion in the sultanate mainly centers around the official state religion of the Faith of the Heavens. Worship of all gods is encouraged and prominent. The gods Ibris, Tarsen, and Ularsil have extra significance within the worship of the nation due to the sultanate strong culture of trading, exploriing and seafaring.

Foreign Relations

The sultanate holds very strong relations with the Listuroni Sultanate due to the two nations very close cultural ties and the history the nations share as trading partners and allies in the past. The two nations are nearly as close as nations can be without being joined as one.    Relations with the Kingdom of Sildra-Tor and the Golden Khanate are both quite frosty at best. They maintain a very uneasy trade partnership with the kingdom although, relations have been heavily strained due to the kingdoms hostilities towards the Listuroni Sultanate. Many people believe the kingdom has threatened to invade the sultanate if relations were to deteriorate even further. Relations with the Khanate are cold due to the Khanates previous wars against the Listuroni and their continued friendliness and closeness with the Kingdom of Sildra-Tor.   The sultanate maintains quite healthy trade relations with both the Free Cities and The Dread Lords. The sultanates trade fleets travel far and wide and this trade benefits all the nations involved.    Relations with both the Abasid Caliphate and Ashiri Empire are close to nonexistent although, this isn't for lack of trying on the sultanates part. Traders have been rejected from both of these lands and thus relations have been hard to establish.
