Golden Khanate

The Golden Khanate is a very large, populous nation occupying much of the north/northwestern part of the continent of Zalas. They are an absolute monarchy with a Great Khan at its head currently being Snuklug the Young. They are a aggressive, war-like nation that has gone to war with mostly all of its neighbors at some point in its history typically more than once. The species that call the country home are mostly Hobgoblins, Goblins and Half-Orcs although some other species can be found within its borders in small numbers. Worship of all the gods of the world can be found although worship of Alios, Ibris and Xiara is most common. The Khanate is known for its massive open plains and grasslands that cover most of the nation as well its cities tending to be made up mostly of large, complex tents. Its people are known to be skilled warriors and horsemen as well as excellent hunters and shepherds.

Structure

The country is an absolute monarchy governed by a Great Khan. The Great Khan rules over his Khanate from his capital Yugluk. The Khanate is split into different provinces based around the major cities of the nation. They are each watched over by provincial governors who are apponted by the Great Khan personally and report directly to him. They are responsible for the daily governance of their individual province.

Culture

Hailing from their days as nomadic shepherds the Khanati people are known to be wanderers. The whole economy is largely based on trading and bartering as opposed to a money system although they do have currency. The people are said to be wary of outsiders and tend not to take strongly to newcomers with some saying it takes years to get them to open up to even insignificant details. Often they are thought to be very direct when dealing with others, speaking clearly what they want/feel instead of wasting words. They are a very aggressive society internally with disputes tending to be solved by fights to the death and even perceived slights to ones honor can cause generations long feuding between families. This has led to a reputation that the society is lawless although this is not the case as the fights and duels are heavily regulated and are sanctioned by the government. Society within the Khanate revolves around horses and horses are held in the highest esteem being even more important than ones children at times.

History

The Golden Khanate was formed in the year 1236 AC by Yugluk the Conqueror after he led his tribe into a conquest against the local tribes of the area and then onto the rest of the tribes of the Northern Plains. After the last tribes were conquered it was named the Golden Khanate due to it seeming to stretch from horizon to horizon catching all the suns light within. Once solidifying their own lands the Khanate has set about trying to conquer most of the lands neighboring it. They have had several wars with the Abasid Caliphate to the southeast although they have never managed to make any significant gains against the Caliphate. They also have gone to war with the Listuroni Sultanate on occasion with the most recent conflict between the two nations only coming around thirty years ago. In the most recent times however the current Great Khan has sought a more neutral approach much to the annoyance of many of his nobles.

Demography and Population

The population of the Khanate is very spread out as opposed to most nations with cities being not densely populated in nature except for the capital of Yugluk. Most of the people lives in the rural countryside and a large portion of the populace still lives the nomadic lifestyle of their ancestors. The nation is home to three major species those being Goblins, Hobgoblins, and Half-Orcs. Goblins and Hobgoblins each make up around thirty-five percent of the population with Half-Orcs making up around twenty percent and the remaining ten percent being a smattering of different minority species.

Territories

The Khanate controls all of the Northern Plains on the continent of Zalas. Their borders extend from the northern side of the western edge of the Northern Grey Mountains all the way until the edge of the Undying Desert in the east.

Religion

The Khanate has no official religion, instead the Kubali people venerate whichever god they find most important or identify most with.    Worship of the god Alios is quite common due to the nations ideals aligning closely with the gods own ideals. Honor and valor are important things to the average person within the nation, and dueling is one of the most common sports to participate in.    The god Emus is also venerated commonly due to hunting and shepherding being common ways of life within the Khanate.    The goddess Iasis is also commonly worshipped within the nation due to her domains of smithing, crafting, and forging. The Kubali people are also known to be very direct when speaking to others leading to their close association with the goddess.

Foreign Relations

The Khanate has very friendly relations with the Kingdom of Sildra-Tor due in part to the two nations similar cultures and want for battle. They have had prospering trade relations for some time now and there is talk by some scholars that an official alliance will be declared between the two nations in the near future.    Relations with the Listuroni Sultanate and Tangir Sultanate are quite frosty at best. The Khanate has attempted to invade the Listuroni Sultanate in the past and relations between the two have never recovered. This former hostility and the Khanates ongoing close ties with the Kingdom of Sildra-Tor has led to frosty relations between the nations as well as with the Tangir Sultanate due to that nations close ties with the Listuroni.    The Khanate has strong trade ties with the Free Cities to the east and has maintained trade relations for some time.    Relations with the Abasid Caliphate are quite hostile but not outright at war due to the Khanates previous incursions into the desert territories of the Caliphate.    Relations with the Ashiri Empire are essentially nonexistent due to the Empires longstanding isolation from the other nations of the world.
